Re: [HSI] What is going on here?

Just for kicks reinstalled my old Moto SB5101u and can see all information as usual no issues.

Reinstall the Charter provided cisco dpc3008 and I can only see the DOSIS WAN page nothing else. Certainly not the logs.

However if you disconnect the cable from the modem and reboot the 3008 you CAN see the "channel" selection button and you can access the information page which allows changes..Weird. They don't want you to see the log but they will allow you to access a page where you can make critical changes in how the modem operates.

That's default operation for the Cisco DPC3008. It happens that way on every provider, unless the provider went out of their way and configured it differently. Cisco and Scientific Atlanta before them has been doing that for years. This isn't a Charter plot, I've seen the same behavior on Comcast, Adelphia, and TWC for the last 12+ years with Cisco and SA modems. Used to have a PDF file that described it exactly from SA.

Two is one, one is none. If it's important, back it up... Somethimes 99.999% availability isn't even good enough.

This actually appears to be the factory default on the cisco 3008

.
Please stop being so snide with your comments.

In any case since Charter owns the modem they can pretty much do what they want in the settings. I don't like that fact, but I understand it.
