 | Any Germans here want to share their thoughts about Facebook I've got some relatives in Germany and none of them use Facebook, vs every single one of my relatives and friends in the US are on Facebook. My German folk say that practically nobody there uses it, which to my American self seems a bit odd just knowing how it is engulfed in everyday life over here. Most all businesses, big and small, have a Facebook page.
I'm not saying having Facebook is the best and how can anyone live without it, but whether you love or hate it, in America anyway, it's in your face all the time.
I personally don't use Facebook a lot as far as making posts, but I do enjoy having the ability to keep up with friends who don't live near me that I wouldn't necessarily call on a regular basis.
And I know that not "all" Americans use FB either, so not really looking for American replies of "I'm American and I don't use it and I hate it, etc", just looking to see if there are any Germans on the board who would like to share their thoughts on the subject.
And this article is a little old, but looks like Germany specifically has one of the lowest FB adoption rates: (in developed countries)

»gulfstreamblues.blogspot.com/201···ook.html I have a facebook account i do not use it very much. German as well. -- Well, does your car at least turn into something else? Sometimes I turn it into a trashcan. Hmm... |

 | I have a facebook account i do not use it very much. German as well. So you're German and live in Germany? Do many of the businesses there have FB pages?
Do you have some other form of social media that you use that is similar to FB, or do most Germans you know just not use anything like FB? -- Therapy Chicks |

OZOPremium join:2003-01-17 kudos:2 | reply to TherapyChick It's a cultural thing. We're different. Germans had their tough lessons with privacy learned earlier in history and they value that a lot. We, Americans, on the other side don't give a shit about it, putting the urge to brag about themselves in front of anyone, known or unknown (it's called "socializing" here), above any sanity. So called "social" media in the US is encouraged by government and its three letter agencies, working hard on gathering, saving for future use and analyzing collected data... We know it well, but, as I said, we don't care. That's the difference... -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |
