joepwpbPremium join:2000-12-15 West Palm Beach, FL | Two USB External Drives - No Drive Letter I have two Seagate Go Flex drives which are recognized in Computer Management and Device Manager but neither will assign a drive letter. Also, in Computer Management if I right click the Disk 1 removable I do not get a menu only Help.
I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters, every other USB port on the Computer, uninstalled it in DM and tried it in Safe Mode. I have yet to try another PC because the person I am working with does not have another computer. As soon as I can get there the first thing I will try is plugging them into my laptop.
I have a Western Digital external which functions normally.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try? Since it does not assign a drive letter I cannot format them.
Thanks

Oleg, I will try that diskpart command asap but I don't believe it is the issue since he is able to plug in a WD drive and it assigns a drive letter and functions normally.
The laptop is running Win7 Pro and all of the Window Updates are current.
I will post back asap.
Thanks

 | reply to joepwpb I have seen this before and to fix it I went into disk management and changed the drive letters of the drive's when they are connected. After that I could see them in Windows explorer. |

 | reply to joepwpb You can try these utils

 | reply to joepwpb What about the possibility that there are no partitions on the drives? As joepwpb stated, in disk management there where no drive letters assigned and the context menu options can be miss leading.
If you couldn't test it on a different machine, maybe check the disk management again and try to create a 'new simple volume' or something. At least the drive should be displayed in the lower half of the window as 'Disk X' 'Removable'. |

joepwpbPremium join:2000-12-15 West Palm Beach, FL | reply to mmainprize Yes!! That Nirsoft utility is what I used to view all of the USB assignments. The drive is listed there, as it its in disk management, but no drive letter. It wouldn't let me assign a drive letter or remove it.
s_becker: There are partitions on the drives but there is no way to create a simple volume because the context menu only displays "Help".
I am still planning on testing the drives with my laptop asap and will post the results.
Thanks
