[DSL] internet disconnects when downloading torrents

I'm experiencing a weird issue that I didn't have in Richmond Hill, but I do now in Aurora. If I'm downloading SOME torrents my internet will disconnect for no reason, then reconnect about 30 seconds later.

I'm using a D-Link DSL-520B ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem.

Not sure what kind of info can be gleaned to troubleshoot this. I have a WNDR3700 router with OpenWRT installed where the modem is connected as a Pppoe connection. Because of OpenWRT I have full access to the logs but I'm not seeing anything that would explain the disconnects.

Check your DSL modem line stats and figure out if you have a low upstream or downstream margin + significant CRC errors. If so, it is possible that there's just enough errors to get the modem horribly behind when at full load.

Since you have access to QoS, try limiting your upstream to say 80-90% of your max achievable upstream rate. Not exactly a solution, but may make it more stable.

You also might try without the router - directly to the modem. A number of years back I had OpenWRT on a WNDR something or other...but the software was still too alpha at that point.

perfect I'll give those a shot. I was thinking when typing I should try plugging the NAS directly to the modem and see what's up.

I'll monitor and post back on what I see.
