Shada join:2007-03-09 Stratford, ON | reply to Shada Yep so far this is sucking big time getting worse as we go. Modem has reset itself on me twice now.
Speeds are horrible and my 6 MB dsl outperformed this so far.

I was told it could take 24 hours to provision for speed. but common now I cannot use my internet, if I reset modem I will get 10 mb back but then will just pause and go back to low speed.
Any suggestions, I have already posted direct forum. |

 | My guess is congestion with something pulling the area down.
My connection is suffering from the same thing (Only D2 here with D3 rollout in November)
Normally I only get 6-8Mbps with a few hours (4am-7am) giving 10-14Mbps
BUT something loads my area down for days on end (5+) forcing the connection down to 2-4Mbps |

Still not 35 mb and my area and all other friends on cable with start.ca all have constant speed all the time.
Mine is Consistent no fluctuation at all. it is simple a profile setting or it would change.
easy fix i hope and might not be finish provisioning yet still under 24 hours since connection went active |

they could be on a better node. That being said, i'm finding TSI a bit slow in my area (McNicoll) these few weeks. I believe it's a capacity issue. They're turning ATPIA the coming week so i'm not worried right now. |

Shada join:2007-03-09 Stratford, ON | reply to Shada they have 25 or 35 Mb connections and are 1 mile away, they post constant speed tests of 49 Mb on speedtest.net Toronto, speed boost I assume, My area has generally good internet wiring and infrastructure with a population of only 30 thousand so congestion not really an issue
Also I am 1st for Teksavvys new atpia for Stratford, I have held out on start hopping and knowing one day Teksavvy would come through and they did and I jumped first day |

Re: New Cable Install 35 MB Stratford Complete NOW Happy After it was still 10 Mb this morning I figured something else must be restricting it. After quick research found my Routers (Netgear 3700) wan port was limited to 10MB, I moved Modem Ethernet cable from wan port over to port 2 added a crossover cable between wan port to port 1 on the router and was instantly at max speed.

I am glad it was nothing on Teksavvy or Rogers end, easy fix for now. But is there a way I can get my routers wan port up to 100 MB port form 10 MB or do I need a new router? If so any recommendations as I really like this Netgear 3700 and would like something with the same features. |

| According to these specifications, your router's WAN port is gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps) and it has more then enough routing performance for 35/3. Either the gigabit port is defective (doesn't sound like it really) or something is wrong in the configuration of the router.
I've never used this router myself, so I don't if there's an option limited the WAN ports operation mode, but you can reset the router to its factory settings.
Page 10 shows you where the reset pin is, page 109 tells how to do go about resetting the router.
quote: Use the end of a paper clip or a similar object to press and hold the Restore Factory Settings button on the router for at least 5 seconds.

| reply to Shada Does anybody see a problem with that? Especially since he would be bypassing NAT, and also broadcasting DHCP packets on the network.
Also just try resetting the router it may be just the propagation speed. Perhaps also trying a different cable to the WAN port. |

Re: New Cable Install 35 MB Stratford Complete but sad said by Shada:Modem has reset itself on me twice now. Which model of modem, and which firmware version?
The DCM475 modem with STAC.02.08 firmware is known to reset itself regularly -- the fix is to get it updated to STAC.02.16. Other modems with out-of-date firmwares have similar issues. |

Re: New Cable Install 35 MB Stratford Complete NOW Happy Yes I know it bypasses nat doing a cross over but the DHCP packets are not an issue.
But after farting around I changed the cable from modem to wan port to the Netgear one that I still had in the box and it worked, Also hard reset modem at same time so that might have done it as well. Wan Port now 100m/full Duplex not 10m so my speedtest are flying with proper wan port setup no cross over.

Thanks again for all your help, the modem has not reset since those first times since 2 hours after connection could have been just Rogers Provisioning or something. all seems stable an well now, I will keep you informed if any problems or instabilities occur, fingers cross.
Thanks again to everyone for their help, including Teksavvy for this awesome Service and Speed and a good price. |
