You don't need to replace the modem. Just configure your router with the PPPoE information, and it will login directly. Older versions of the modems firmware had the problem that they worked at half speed for pass through PPPoE, but that has long since been resolved. However, if you do run into problems, just replace the username in the modem with something bogus, so only your router is connected over PPPoE.

ya that "works fine" if you're on a 25/10 or slower speed, but the modem won't do more than 33Mbit/sec in 'bridge' mode as mentioned.

the modem is also pretty junky and dies with a lot of traffic.
