| [CallCentric] Several Issues Boy, I am glad I took your guys advice and tested out VoIP before making the complete switch away from POTS....After just using the service for 30min or so, I've already run into several issues. To be clear, I got a free NY DID, pay as you go outgoing plan, put $5 on it for testing purposes, and am using a softphone on my PC and the CallCentric iOS app. The problems thus far;
1) The iOS app seems to be completely broken. It seems to pickup my account/balance just fine so I know I have it configured correctly but every time I try to play an outgoing call, it fails. This app is supposed to act like a softphone, correct? I should be able to place outgoing calls to any North American number from my NY DID directly from my iPhone, right?
2) Since the iOS app wasn't working at all, I switched to using the softphone (SFLphone under linux). And again, it reads all my account stuff correctly and I set it up as per their instructions. However, whenever I call outbound from the softphone, the other party hears themselves on an echo. The call always goes through though and the sound quality is perfect from my PC, but the party I called always heard themselves in an echo. Tested by calling both my POTS home phone and my cell.
3) The "click to dial" thing on their website also doesn't seem to work? I place the call, and I actually do get it on my PC, but I answer it and nothing happens...The call never gets redirected to the number I specified. I even tried entering the number again after answering the call but that makes no difference either.... -- www.613websites.com ● Budget Canadian Web Design and Hosting

If you are using speakers, try headphones instead. It's possible that your microphone is picking up sound from your speakers and sending it back to the other party. |

That's exactly it probably...I am using a built in webcam mic and my speakers are right there as well. Their voice comes out of the speakers and is going back into the mic...
#2 = solved, thanks Mango -- www.613websites.com ● Budget Canadian Web Design and Hosting

 | reply to d4m1r I can't comment on the iOS as I don't use that, it remains to be seen if this is a CC issue or an iPhone issue. If you file a support ticket I'm sure that they will work with you on this on Monday. BTW, you [are] dialing calls as 11 digits (1+AC+number)?
Regarding the softphone, what Mango said would be the first thing that comes to mind. Also, have you tried reducing volume settings? Using G711 codec?
Click to dial, I have never had a problem with that, so you'll have to ask them about that too. Maybe try under Windows rather than Linux?

I consider them a thoroughly excellent company, but it is always good to see that your particular needs are satisfied before doing a port, to ANY provider.
If they are able to work this out with you (as I hope) that would be great. If not, it's only been a few dollars (most of which is refundable) and you can look some more....
Do contact them and let's see the followup. Again, today being Sunday this will likely be best delved into tomorrow. »www.callcentric.com/contact/ |

No, the app is not used like a softphone. All it is is a click-to-dial app that will use your cell phone minutes when it is used. It is pretty much only useful if you are wanting to place international calls from your cell phone using Callcentric's rates.
If you want a good SIP app for iOS, try Acrobits or Bria. These will allow you to place/receive calls from your iPhone without using your cell minutes.
Just, keep in mind that since Callcentric does not offer subaccounts, you really can only have one device registered at a time. So, if you were using an iOS app, you would not want to be logged in using a softphone on your computer, or an ATA. |
