Is CAD programs hard to learn?

I want to design a project box for this project but most of the off the shelf stuff is too fat or the mounting bosses are not placed right.

I was told about this site here you design the object and you hire someone to 3D print it out.

"Protocase Designer" is really simple and you can make any kind of custom (metal) enclosures ... which are built by Protocase of course. You see the pricing as you design the box.

Unfortunately their website is down at the moment which is very unusual. »www.google.ca/search?q=protocase ... and check out images of the kind of (one-off) enclosures you can design.

CAD programs are very easy to learn. I do 3D modeling every day.
I use Autodesk inventor, but there are many different brands of software out there.
For 3D objects its as simple as drawing several 2D profiles and then extruding 3D from that 2D profile.

Essentially you need to break down your 3D shape into a series of 2D profiles, draw the 2D profiles in the software and extrude the 2D profiles to make the 3D object.

You can use free software like google sketchup or blender.

The site you linked to even recommends free software to use.

I'm curious to see what you came up with, but the link gives me a "you don't have permission" page.
