[speed/latency] youtube

does anyone here have a fix for verizon youtube issues? it's driving me insane. i already cancelled dsl on one line because of verizon refusing to fix it's wiring (or whatever was broken), and am about to cancel the other line because of this youtube issue.

if i don't get a fix by the end of next week, i probably will, in addition to taking voice over to a home phone unit on at&t.

in addition, on hot days, my dsl flakes out in the morning, meaning i have to force reset it when i wake up around noon or so.

stats for those interested:

Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3360 839
Margin (dB) 10.2 10.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 57.3 34.7
Transmit Power (dBm) 18.4 12.2

and no, i refuse to go to 1.5, i'll switch to an expensive data plan on 4g before i'll do that.

i can deal with the flaky dsl for now (after it happens enough, i'll force it to be fixed), but need a fix for youtube failing to even try to buffer correctly.

The problem is two-part, YouTube and peering.

If you internet search on
Verizon youtube peering
you'll see the problem occurs across other ISP's as well as Verizon. But it is worse on Verizon.

Both parts of the problem can really only be fixed by YouTube. There is nothing you can do in terms of seeking a fix from Verizon DSL support.

surprisingly that guide worked for me. the first time i tried blocking that ip set, i just did it using the /24 way, this time i just used the subnet option since it was there, and it has worked sofar. here's to hoping that this fix sticks. now i'm off to reset my modem because it's in stupid mode again

I'm surprised that blocking specific IPs is a generic workaround. The point of using a CDN is to locate servers close to where the data is used.

So far Demonfang See Profile proves me wrong.

Nothing lost by trying the workaround.

normally that works out well, but does no good when the cdn is rubbish.
