Thanks for the info chachazz See Profile.

On the d/l page, they give the hash for vlc-2.0.6-win32.exe as SHA-1 checksum: 95157fcd449993cf0f6cb1a6810df3d4ef0eafa8

It doesn't match the hash for the file after I downloaded it. Would someone please check and confirm. Thanks.

The SHA-1 checksum matched perfectly however I immediately had problems with the new version. CPU and memory use shot through the roof as soon as I loaded the program. Re-installed v2.05 and all is back to normal.

Thanks Pentangle See Profile.
I've downloaded the the file more than half a dozen times and the SHA-1 still doesn't match. Someone reported the same problem on Wilders, but no one there mentioned the problems that you're seeing with memory and CPU usage.

Download it again & see if the second time isn't the charmer?

Keep your original & see if a compare of the two tells you anything?

I picked up the .7z variety (x86) & its hash matched (what was displayed on their website).

FWIW I just downloaded a new copy of HashTab and the sha-1 value they gave for the Windows file at their download site doesn't match the actual file itself using HashTab.

Still no luck at the VLC website. However, I've downloaded the vlc-2.0.6-win32.exe file from 2 other sites (majorgeeks, techspot) and the SHA-1 hash matched correctly. Go figure.

File sizes are different: From VLC - 22,935,034 bytes. From the other 2 sites w/correct hash - 22,943,014 bytes.

Weird.

Thanks very much for the link...it appears that other users are having the same issues with CPU and memory spikes. VLC shot up to 2 gigs of ram use when I shut it down and re-installed v2.05. I'll continue to use v2.05 'til the dust settles.

Mine looks the same as yours. Downloaded from the Videolan site.

Will wait before installing it.

Edit: It looks like this is a bad download....

I'm getting it now from...

Okay, Just got it and...

CRC32: 94E70C87
MD5: 523DF8B80625E3818CBA6036EFC5B679
SHA-1: 95157FCD449993CF0F6CB1A6810DF3D4EF0EAFA8

I will try this one.

Edit again:

This build seems fine so far. No unusual memory usage. The problem seems to be a faulty build that is still on the main Videolan download page.

If you have problems, use the link above to download again and check the SHA-1 value.

I have the same result as you jmorlan See Profile. The build from Jean-Baptiste Kempf's direct link has the correct sha-1, normal memory usage and works just fine.

Only problem for me is that the direct link is for Windows, which I will use for my PC, but where should I get a good download for my Macs?

Yes. It kinda makes sense as there is no later version at this time. Although it should display a more user friendly message. It could very well be a connection issue at this time.

So is there a problem with this update? I'm confused by this thread. How do we know we got the "good" update?

jmorlan above posted a link to the VLC Forum »forum.videolan.org/viewt ··· #p372346

In that thread, the programs developer posts a direct link for a good download.

Thanks. I assume that there is no way to know if you ran the wrong one once you have run it and deleted the original file that you downloaded? Because I already installed the file I downloaded and deleted it afterward. Now I have no idea if the one I did was a good one or a bad one.

If you have any doubts, you can always remove the entire program and then download/install from the link that was provided on VideoLAN's forum.
