The finished product
Hi All,

I had the opportunity to witness the beginning of Teksavvy when they didn't offer Internet Services yet. They hosted website services and such. Here's some pics from 2001 when Marc received his first server rack. He was very excited.

Enjoy.

wow, how far we've come. I remember some of those boxes from when I started working at TekSavvy but by then they pretty much got decommissioned (IE happily got swinged in the dumpster)

Damn, those are some big towers. Perfect as a door stop.

Also, it would be neat if someone put together the history of TekSavvy with pics and posted it on the site. I don't think many people know TekSavvy before the DSL era.

Loo at the second rack, bottom server to the left. It's a Compaq server. Pentium 60!!! weighed a ton.

There's a blue cobalt appliance there too.. wasn't ours. another local shop VCNI ended up going under (anybody buy land on the moon?)

Its funny you mention the black one because as soon as I looked at the pic.. that's exactly what I thought too! hehe good ol' Aopen towers. They were nice to work on.

I was eating lunch with the owner of that building earlier his week.. he told me the same thing.

That building is where we moved after we moved out of the building in the pics above...

The above pics were taken in Spurgeon Villa on the way out of town towards Wallaceburg.

what's next.... a real fiber to the home network for teksavvy customers..... with speeds matching google fiber.... 1 gigabit per second.... lol...maybe someday

this would help.... teksavvy since you will be running on your own network and not paying bell and rogers..... the big telecoms...

The shaping is gone for sure.. I don't feel like we won though :\

We got CBB instead. *hurmph* --> Technically it's an "Economic ITMP" (i.e. you pay more!)

I am a bit behind the times now since I haven't use ADSL from a wholesaler in years but what exactly is CBB ?.

edit: Nevermind I see you answered it when I was writing this.

edit: Is this kind of like with fiber optic connections where you pay for the circuit as well as a per megabit rate for the transit ?.

Firefox doesn't like the apostrophe in the file name.

LOL, I wanted to say something, but I didn't want to offend you guys...

Something along the lines of....those old school ones, look like they have a readout for the "speed" they were running..like 66mhz and 60mhz and 50mhz and so-on with "Turbo" buttons on the front....I am dating myself now...

I forgot servers back then really didn't scale up the way they do now.
