Fios Flex View Scam, Criminal or Fair?

I am responding to an older post about flex view being a scam. Someone asked if you can keep the movies you purchased through FIOS if you leave or moved. I purchased over 1k of movies and we are moving to xfinity (although I like fios internet) to save 160 per month. Yep, double play is 260 a month withg out package for web and tv. We do have less channels but whose going to watch a thousand channels. My main issue is (I currently have both because I am trying to keep the movies I bought before I leave FIOS). Fact is, you CANNOT. They are not yours or are only yours while you are with FIOS. I like FIOS but too me that's criminal. I was told when I signed up that the motorola box usb is for transferring your movies but turns out you have to use their media manager and to answer an older post I wasn't able to answer, YOU CANNOT KEEP YOUR MOVIES WHEN YOU LEAVE FIOS. I was told otherwise and have over a grand in purchased movies. Now I don't know what to do. BELOW IS A COPIED AND PASTE ISSUE from tech support. Some may say it is an incentive but to put a usb in front and tell you that you are purchasing movies..that to me (like iTunes I keep the movies I buy) is criminal since the movies cost as much as a DVD.:::I think this is criminal. I like bios web but I am paying ther same amount without the phone. We went from triple play to double play and still paying 260 a month and we aren't in a contract..So I currently have both but as of now, I don't trust any cable provider and if your like me and like the idea of owning cloud based movies you can keep or download anytime and keep, well know one should buy from cable. Use Itunes IMO. I have apple tv, netflix and 2 cable providers right now but I am angry. I am going to have to what get a video capture device and play all 98 movies I purchased. Whats your opinion. They are intentionally creating an app so you have to log in to watch your movies. If you buy a movie, its yours to watch aywhere even after you leave. To me this is black mail. IMO

Derek(16:04:29): Thank you, I apologize for the trouble you are having. The USB port on the front of the DVR is disabled. On Demand shows are not stored on the DVR, they are on our servers at Verizon. They can be accessed through the set top box or through Media Manager but they cannot be downloaded to a drive.
You(16:05:16): So we don't really own the movies that we purchase then?
You(16:06:00): What if we leave Verizon or if we move? We loose 1k in movies?
Derek(16:06:05): Purchase means you can view the movie any time while you have Verizon service. Rentals are only good for 48 hours.
Derek(16:06:25): If you move and keep Verizon, you will not lose the movies, but if you disconnect Verizon services, then the movies will be gone.
You(16:07:18): Wow! That's criminal don't you think? We were told the usb in the front was for downloading from our library
Derek(16:09:36): No, they cannot be transferred. I am not sure why that is either because it costs the same as a DVD.

From the Verizon site:

Do I need to be a Verizon broadband customer to use Flex View on my computer?
Subscription to FiOS service is required to become a Flex View customer. However, your Verizon broadband service is not required to maintain access to your purchased titles.

I doubt anybody told you that you could use the USB port on the Moto box, that port has never been active for any use. You should be able to download using Media Manager per the FAQ's...
More about Flex View & your PC
More about Flex View & your PC: Do I need Internet access to watch Flex View videos on my computer?
An Internet connection is not required to watch a Flex View video on an authorized computer. An Internet connection is required only for downloading a rented or purchased video to your PC.

Exactly be smart , buy USB drive , transfer them to your computer.
Or find a way to.

Losing so much money is not good thing. Or you could re-bundle get better deal/s.

But man you will need a lot of space for 1k HD movies WOW.

Good luck man!

Re: Fios Flex View Scam, Criminal or Fair?

Um... it isn't hard to understand; if you buy a Flex View movie and you want to download it, you have to use the Media Manager application. Just like you have to use the iTunes application to download movies you purchased from the iTunes Store.

They don't shut off your username when you leave Verizon. You will still be able to log on to MyVerizon.net, go to the Flex View section and access your purchased movies, or download the movies to your PC using Media Manager, or use the Flex View app on your Android, iOS device or Samsung Smart TV.

There is no scam here.

$250 a month for double play? I pay $100 less for a triple play. What in the world is going on with your bill?

@leif007 sorry that you will lose over a thousand dollars worth of content but you should have done more research before spending all that money and not assume content follows you especially if you leave verizon.

Not necessarily trolling, maybe misunderstood after getting bad CSR response. Read the chat.

OP asked about downloading without use of Media Manager. Chat says let me connect you to specialist. OP asks about use of USB. Specialist says not functional, movies available through STB or Media Manager, cannot be downloaded. Says "If you move and keep VZ, you don't lose the movies, but if you disconnect VZ, movies are gone."

Trolling, maybe, since he's in two places with the same rant and hasn't responded. But freaked out, yes.

Others have said, including the VZ promotional material you linked to, you don't lose the movies even if disconnected and moved. It's possible the movies can be downloaded locally, but you still have to use Media Manager.

OP says "1k of movies". That could be $1k which would equate to 250 movies. That's a hunk of movies. Netflix DVDs are the way to go, unless you're really into the early window of opportunity thing. Price you gotta pay, I guess.

Even when I make a "backup" copy, I rarely go back a second time.

Good lesson. NEVER buy flex view content. If you want to buy streaming content do it from VUDU which you can access wherever you have internet be it fios or someone else. Of course there is no guarantee that vudu will be around forever but there is a much better chance then with FioS and limited coverage area.

The issue is that the OP believes he can continue using his DVR after cancelling service. The DVR is deactived when you cancel. But your Flex View purchases are available, forever, via your My Verizon account. Again, you don't have to remain a FiOS customer (either TV or internet) to continue watching stuff you bought through Flex View.

Note that the OP joined the forum the day they posted and have not been heard from since even though people have responded with good information.

Your post cracked me up. JPL and I had a chat a few years ago about the similarity of our screen names because we often mistook the other's posts for ours. That no longer happens for fortunately.

A hint: think initials when you see our respective screen names.

Yep. I guess I could just go with my last name or something - won't give it here, but trust me... it would be unique. And, ironically, something... Italian .

My initials are somewhat unique, as well. Many friends call me by them. Some call me by my actual first name. In middle school and High School, i hated people calling me by my first name and not my initials. Now i dont care at all.

However it is not a nickname for a longer full name that people have.

Are you now intrigued at what my name is? Scratching ones chin hairs, Lol

With flexview, you can download to your computer and keep what you buy forever. Can't do that with the other streaming services (at least none that I have heard of).

You can download your purchases from Amazon Instant using their Unbox program and iTunes (which has turned into a streaming service).

Hello community,

We just wanted to offer a little insight and clarification over this issue.

In the event that you decide to cancel your FiOS TV services, please do not worry. Any Flex View titles you have previously purchased are maintained for you, even if you're no longer a Verizon customer.

You will be set up with a Flex View store account that will allow you to still log in via our website or apps to continue to download or stream the movies you have purchased. Your account will no longer have any billing affiliation with Verizon, so you won't be able to rent or purchase any additional new content, however, any content you have previously purchase will definitely be there.

If you have any questions or concerns over this, please feel free to check our support page and contact us: Here

Thanks,
Ali XXXXXX

I actually wanted to try flex since I had 1 free movie.

What I did not know is that if I choose to download the movie I cannot watch it on TV? via setbox?

it does not show in my library , quality of downloads is horrible on setbox it says HD available on pc,mobile,tv , so then I wanted to try to watch it via TV and seems like if I actually want to watch it in HD I would have to pay again.

I am guessing I won't be ever using flex , seems nice but no thank you.
