Give that pressure gauge a few taps to see if it "zeros" out.

If doesn't zero than it for sure is shot.

I think 50-60 PSI is way too high for any filter but I'm not positive on above ground equipment.

Either way it's time for the OP to take a trip to the pool store to ask some questions and get his water tested.

I had a buddy who worked in a pool store, he said the "free testing" is the biggest money maker for them. He said basically all you need is chlorine and maybe clarifier if you have a glass bead filter. Ive followed his advice now for 10 years and save a LOAD on chemicals!

I never test my own water.

I call bullshit on all you need is chlorine and clarifier..
I've never used a clarifier in 23 years.

I buy what I need.

The biggest mistake most pool owners are guilty of is not keeping the water balanced the entire time the pool is in service.
