Re: What did you do to your automobile today?

Loosen the clamp and turn the air intake over near your air horns. That looks the way it should have been done.

I had that same idea a day after I bought this thing, but that won't work. The hood slopes down, and the tube is pretty much at a 90 degree angle - I could move the tube but the hood would never close.

The Flex went into the dealer today to fix a broken side mirror that happened at the car wash (they're paying) last Saturday and an issue with one of the climate control blend doors. So I didn't get to drive it to work.

Fortunately, everything got fixed and it's happy again. So I took it back to the car wash for another wash (it was really spotted from lawn sprinklers and some rain) and to drop off the receipt for the incredibly expensive mirror assembly.

Tomorrow, I get to drive it to work!

I wrote a check for $1000 to my mechanic. I guess it beats making car payments. 2 new back tires, brakes all around, oil change, wiper blades, and state inspection - or should I say fucking state inspection.

It's nice that there is no state inspection normally for cars (just when they go up for sale).

Cleaned the inside of the windows in my VW. Topped off the a/c in the truck. Waiting until it gets cooler to look for the dye leak and repair it.

Here in MO, after 5 years from new, a car has to pass a state inspection in order to get a new plate sticker. You can get 1 yr or 2 yr. Unfortunately, my wife got the 1 yr sticker last year (As to why, your guess is as good as mine.).
We get the pleasure of doing an emission inspection as well because of our proximity to St. Louis.

It's a giant racket. Of course the mechanic is going to find *something* wrong. We knew it needed 2 tires (starting to dry rot). I wasn't expecting to have new brakes put on all the way around.
I don't like car payments. I bought the car new in 2005 and paid cash. It will probably be the last new car I ever buy (excepting fleet vehicles for business).
Every time I think about buying a new car (loan payments, higher insurance, sales tax, personal property tax), the mechanics bill doesn't seem so bad.
Lately, I have been browsing for a used BMW just for me to drive.

The 2005-2007 models can be had for about the same price as a new Civic with relatively low miles. Maintenance cost is the killer though, so certified pre-owned is the best option imo.

OK - here is something BMW owners might recognize:

On BMW vehicles many of the bolts are single use, torque to yield type so that you cannot simply "repair" and roll on.

What bolts? I would bet the vast majority of the bolts are replaced on anything close to a regular basis.

I've never had bolts on my car replaced so far, and if I did I doubt they would cost me $8.20/bolt to boot.

Torque to yield bolts (aka stretch bolts) are a consumable item.

The outside of the heads looks the same, its the inside that's different.

Oh and at the same time some CMCV deletes.

Now I need to save up and upgrade my cams, though the overkill addict in me wants me to go nuts and get beehive springs and Titanium Retainers too. (though the bottom end wouldn't likely be good at the RPM's that those springs would allow the valves to be good up to.)

I do plan to hit up a dyno shop next Monday. (the heads I got are FFRP HT stage 3 heads) M-6049-463P/M-6050-463P
»www.fordracingparts.com/ ··· eld=9447

At the same time I got the following put on
ARP 2000 Series Head Stud Kit - 12 Point
M-6004-463V
Cometic 3V MLS 94mm Head Gasket
New Rocker Arm and Lash Adjusters
And steda CMCV deletes

Nope only $85 US. Since it has the pyrotechnic seat belts with side seat airbags. Or it would have been $56

Got it installed now just need to reset the light. My Snap-On scanner seemed to just recently walk off. So now have to find another scanner.

Bought me a head unit to get rid of the stock radio from Crutchfield. Already did the prelims yesterday. Tonight, when I get home, I will finish the install by taking out the old and putting in the new. No more fracking commercials. Now I can use my iPod.

Tested last night after the install and she sounded beautiful. I was able to crank up the volume, so I may not need speakers . Went to work this morning playing my iPod and it was "Wow!". Now, when I travel a long ways, I got something to listen too .
