Currently you can only play the Japanese version. It is free-to-play and the most difficult part is getting past the captcha. Once past that, there are several resources to convert many of the menus into English. The western release was just delayed, and there isn't any additional news on the topic. This is a PSO sequel, not PSU. I plan to get more into it tonight and welcome anyone else to try with me.
I want a PS single player. I loved their old games...
I'm tempted to try it since I always loved Phantasy Star, but I think I'll wait till the US release, otherwise I might be too put off by not understand a damn in game even if I get past the menu and turn it English.
They fixed much of the combat in Phantasy Star Universe, and I believe it leans heavily on that style. I just finished downloading the game last night and will jump on it tonight when I get home. I put in years into PSO on the dreamcast, gamecube and xbox; then put in a ton of time on PSU as well.
First SS from getting the game up and running. Note: there are two applications that are installed, one says PSO2, the other is a bunch of squares. DO NOT RUN THE SQUARES! I found out the hard way that that is the uninstall program and it will force you to redownload the game (which can take 4-8 hours).
Just a note: registration is the most difficult part. Much of it is mitigated through the use of google Chrome's translate feature, but you still need to get past the Japanese Captcha. Once you do that, it is a breeze. Also to note: much of the game is saved server side, so there are still many parts that are still in Japanese. If you have ever played a PSO or PSU version, much will be familiar.
oh wow cool i will have to check it out, is it about to be like a english version of it or is it gona stay japan?
Sega just officially announced a western release by stating that it is delayed. So we can take the good with the bad. The cool thing is that it is f2p, though you only can play with 1 character per account. (This is bypassed through the creation of multiple accounts with a character on each.)
Ship 2 block 20 is the unofficial English server. The character creation is very very in depth to being able to adjust arms and legs thickness and length. Within 5 min of creating a character and starting a quest I had 2 English speaking players that jumped on my game to teach me the ropes. The game can be played with an Xbox 360 controller with text pad, or keyboard and mouse. Camera control is much better this time around and this feels like a vastly upgraded version of PSOv1&2 and fans should feel right at home with this.
