Comcast hostnamesWhen will Comcast be changing their hostnames to Xfinity? For example my hostname currently is c-##-##-###-###.hsd1.nj.comcast.net and I'm wondering when it will be c-##-##-###-###.hsd1.nj.xfinity.net
Also on a separate question, what the heck does hsd1 mean? |

doubt they will ever change, no need to. why do you assume they will?
hsd - high speed data |

Well with Comcast changing their entire branding over from "Comcast" over to "Xfinity' on their products, commercials, bills, and trucks, even their uniforms, it's a safe assumption, plus it just looks more modern. |

AT&T pushes their U-verse brand name just as much as Comcast pushes the Xfinity brand name, but their network "domain" names are still att.net, sbcglobal.net, bellsouth.net... FWIW, Comcast does use Xfinity as a "host" name as in » xfinity.comcast.net and » xfinitytv.comcast.net . There is a difference between a "host" name and a "domain" name. And you also have to consider that Xfinity is just a brand name; Comcast is still the official corporate name for the owner of the Xfinity brand. Also FWIW, Comcast has registered the xfinity.com and xfinity.net domains, but http requests to those domain names redirect to » xfinity.comcast.net/ (and AT&T handles http requests to u-verse.com and u-verse.net similarly, by redirecting to » uverseonline.att.net/ ). |

Think it means as was previously stated " High Speed Data"
If you noticed in traces you get te he and pos
Te means ten gigabit
Ten gigabit *ethernet*
Pos means 40 gigabit
More directly it means a Packet Over SONET interface.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pa ··· ONET/SDH
Not sure what he means
he means a hundred gigabit ethernet interface |

That's an excellent presentation from NANOG -- thanks for sharing the link! Its is indeed very true that interpretation of traceroute outputs has changed over the years and it takes someone who comprehensively understands both the theory and mechanics behind it. This fellow who did the presentation definitely seems to "get it". A great read, highly recommend! |

Why would it be DOCSIS 1 when it is no longer a DOCSIS 1 system ?
or pos
Didn't say you were "wrong" about pos, I just expanded. |

It's docsis 1 because when they made the domain names docsis 1 was the only thing that existed. Even docsis 3.0 uses everything docsis 1 uses, just higher qam symbol rate and more channels and better security |
