Re: [Free] Foxit PDF Reader 6.02

If you don't want these extras(presented during install routine), uncheck the boxes.

I didn't look yet (nor did I look at the MSI, yet) but, what, all the "Create" features are tied in with the Ask Toolbar, it would seem?

So if you don't install Ask, you don't get Create?
(Might not be a loss anyway. When I was reading through all the Create features, I'm thinking to myself, uh, do I want that? I want a Reader, not sure about the rest.)

(But then I do use the Typewriter function kind of regularly, & at times I'll save those modified PDFs. Wonder if that ability will still be there even if you don't accept Create?)

Let us know what you discover after you play with the program.

(running sandboxed, XP, sandboxie)

EXE

Full set of install options, just about everything de/selectable
I saw no mention of toolbars

But then I may not have been able to progress far enough ?
UI disappeared, but any number of processes remained

Doesn't look like I'll be able to install sandboxed ?

Ah, I killed PIP_something_or_the_other, & then the UI reappeared

(Still no mention of toolbars, though)

Install size about doubled from ~44 MB to ~81 MB (5.4 to 6.0)

---

EXE, shell extensions & spell check ONLY

Once again UI disappears
PIPDetect.exe is the process I'll kill
UI returns
Again no mention of toolbars
Install
Install size ~74 MB
Two parts of the installer process hung in memory, killed

---

MSI

No mention of "toolbars"
(the MSI version, in the past at least, never had "toolbars")
Install completed, cleanly, not needing to kill anything, & all processes exited memory on "completion"
Just one thing though, nothing ended up installing ?
It "installed", then I see, "rolling back action" at which point it was not "installed" ?

So sure looks like the MSI is not installing sandboxed
(yes I do run an old version of sandboxie & have no interest in current - at this time)

---

MSI, shell extensions & spell check ONLY

Did install successfully
Install size ~78 MB

---

In the past, my reasoning for the MSI over the EXE was because it did NOT include toolbars
With 6.0, undecided at this point ...

Foxit Reader.exe size increase from 23 to 33 MB (version 5.4 to 6.0)

MSI version has an "Activation.exe" module, whatever that may be for?

Have not yet explored that additional plugins/features that may be offered (the what I consider "non-reader" items, like Creator & Printer)

Well that's new?
When I used to grab the hard to find .MSI version for it's lack of toolbars or third party bundled products... it did not contain any type of "Activation" module. I abandoned Foxit at least a year ago so things have changed in that regard.

Check out some fantastic light weight alternatives: »pdfreaders.org/
