[TGV] Torrent question

My internet speed is 60 Mbps - my average torrent download speed is 1 MB/s, on a popular torrent with tons of seeders I can go up to 7-10 MB/s.
So my question is, if I downgrade to a slower internet, say 15 Mbps - will my average 1 MB/s torrent download speed will become slower?

Because there's a huge gap between my internet speed of 60 and my torrent download speed of just 1. So even if I switch to a slower internet speed, wouldn't my torrent download speed remain the same?

If you can reach 10MB/s, you're lucky. It's the equivalent of 80Mbps!

Yes

So just to confirm, if I switch down to 20 Mbps internet speed (TGV20) - my torrent downloads that have lots of seeders should still average around 1 MB/s (=10 Mbps), right?
What about the kind of torrents that right now on TGV60 are as fast as 7 MB/s - how slow will they be on TGV20?

UndeR la semaine passée a dit qu"il a fait 1 TO en download avec
internet hv ordinaire et tout ça en seulement 3 semaines.
Sa prouve que la très très haute vitesse n'est plus importante
avec internet ILLIMITÉ.

Oui, je l'ai l'illimite, I made damn well sure to snag it as soon as it became available (which it no longer is), so I will keep unlim even if I downgrade to TGV20

I'm not sure but I think there's just a couple weeks left for the chance to grab it, after which you will no longer be able to get the UNLIMITED internet option at Videotron in the nearest future.

You're right, when they announced it, they said it would be available for only one month, from march 20th to april 20th or something like that but it seems they removed that line from the website.

Correct.

If your Internet services is 3 times slower, your speed will keep (roughly, if we don't count the overhead) the same ratio.

Yes, it still is avaialable. I was supposed to be only avaialable until April 20th, but just like Samus Aran said, they removed that clause and it should be available past that date now.

you could probably try to configure the torrent program you got because torrent is basically the only way you should be able to reach maximum speed, very likely that there are some restrictions in place in the settings or something, for example, max peers or also some torrent have a dwnload to upload ratio to follow else you get cut off

I don't think it's a question of setting because he does reach the max speed with some torrents.

well ye if he does reach with other torrent then my answer is worthless indeed

He does. The OP stated this in the first line:

Well maybe I exaggerated about 10, but I for a fact get 6MB/s on some torrents

No it's not. 10 Mb/s is exactly 10 Mbps. It's the exact same unit. Megabits per second.

Now if he's talking 10 MB/s (megabYtes per second) then yes, he is lucky, or the software reporting the speed is using flawed algorithms or misinterpreting spike duration.

No

Maybe. Depends what else is running on that line at the same time.

Again, possibly, but not certainly.

Both him and I were refering to 10MB/s, which is equal to 80Mbps.
However, he already admitted being closer to 6MB

It does happen from time to time, especially on Steam.

Of course, if you're using 90% of your connection on something else, you won't get full speed on your torrent. That's a given...

Videotron tends to "thread" downloads per connection.
Generally, 125~200kb/sec per thread, sometimes as high as 500, but this is rare.
The more connections you allow in the torrent client, the faster it will go, providing of course your router can handle many incoming connections.

It should then be safe to assume that if his router can handle 60Mbps, it will easily handle 20Mbps.
