Verizon Adds 169,000 FiOS TV Q1

Verizon Adds 169,000 FiOS TV, 188,000 FiOS Internet Subs in Q1
FiOS-Related Revenues Jump 15.1% as Verizon Sheds 89,000 DSL Subs
By: Jeff Baumgartner Apr 18 2013 - 9:20am

Verizon’s fiber-fed FiOS platform continued to generate subscriber gains in the first quarter, as revenues for that part of the telco’s business rose 15.1 percent, to $2.6 billion, versus the year-ago quarter. FiOS services represented 69 percent of consumer revenues at Verizon during the quarter.

Verizon added 188,000 FiOS Internet customers in the quarter, extending that total to 5.6 million. It signed on 169,000 FiOS TV subs, for a total of 4.9 million. FiOS Internet penetration was 38.2 percent, up from 36.4 percent, while FiOS video penetration reached 34.1 percent, improving from 32.3 percent.

Verizon added 99,000 net broadband customers, giving it a total of 8.9 million. Gains for FiOS Internet offset the 89,000 DSL customers Verizon lost in the quarter.

The FiOS network passed 17.8 million homes at the end of the quarter as Verizon migrated roughly 83,000 homes on its old copper network to fiber. Verizon plans to upgrade 300,000 copper-connected homes to fiber in FiOS markets by the end of the year.

Verizon ended the period with 98.9 million total retail wireless connections, with 4G Long Term Evolution service available to 287 million people in 491 U.S. markets, representing a 95 percent overlap with Verizon’s current 3G network footprint. Verizon pulled in wireless revenues of $19.5 billion, up 6.8 percent year-over-year. Comcast, TW Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House are bundling and co-selling cable services via their partnerships with Verizon Wireless.

On a total basis, Verizon posted a first quarter profit of $1.95 billion, or 68 cents per share, on revenues of $29.42 billion, up 4.2 percent from the year-ago quarter. Analysts were expecting earnings of 66 cents per share on revenue s of $29.55 billion.

Thank you.

No but if you are going to post a news story you need to add the link to your posts. Also it's not a good idea to post the entire article either. You should do a partial copy and paste of the article and then add the link to the rest of the article.
