[CA] Upgrades SoCal?

When will users in Southern California/Orange County get the speed upgrades? I'm still only seeing the 50 Down and 5 Up! The 5Up is what is killing me! I wish there were more competition in Orange County! Right now I'm stuck with either COX or DSL from AT&T. It seems more economical to buy a pipe from a legit company like XO and share the cost with everyone on my block/city? The availability of new and powerful wireless technology is making me want to buy a fat pipe from a legit provider and share the cost with my neighbors.

I could easily buy some equipment like airFiber from ubiquiti networks and share it to my neighbors. This would allow a stable connection from my big pipe to them without the worry of digging up the ground for fiber or new coax cable. It would also allow more competition......

Why are we so limited here in orange county? Is it politics?

No, it's not politics.

It's simply supply & demand. There aren't that many pipes feeding into OC. All data is back hauled to LA or San diego, mainly LA.

Simply look at the DC's around here, all are all back hauled to LA, with only a few back hauling to San diego.

Transit is already quite expensive, but then add in the back haul necessary? ( Dark Fiber is expensive too ! )

If you get a deal with XO, I'd love to sign up with you.

Unless you live near somewhere [within 15 miles] with a clear L.O.S you could put your Airfiber at that has a decent connection it wouldn't work out.

yea same here man, i've been waiting for Cox to do a speed upgrade in the San diego area too. I know how it feels man. I just wished ppl who live in OC / SD area just signed up for Google fiber whenver they let us to so fiber can get here and we don't have to rely on cox.

I've seen the "speed upgrade!" commercial showing "150Mb down" a couple times in the past 2 days. Soon?

Ok just got a confirmationf from a Cox Rep on their facebook. San Diego area "will" be getting a speed increase, they just haven't released the date yet.

"Cox Communications - Hi Jim, The speed increases are being rolled out for each market separately but most are planned though the coming months, San Diego date has not been released yet but you will see the speed increases shown in the new section of the bill before it happens. -Ed "

"My main point is "Will" San Diego area get the speed increase (whether sooner or later) ?"

"Cox Communications -Yes, San Diego is planned on getting those updates.-Ed"

"you will see the speed increases shown in the new section of the bill before it happens."

So marketing and billing are ahead of reality? Interesting. I would have felt better if they had actually rolled out a product before they advertised or charged for it (yes, my bill saw a pretty sizable hike last month).

Never mind....I guess I'm just old.

Mind asking to see if OC will be getting it along with SD at the same time? Or is OC behind as usual?

Ive been checking this page everyday to see if it updates? It seems like they are pretty quick at changing their page to reflect the new speeds.

Sometimes too quick. They updated the Omaha page a few days ahead of the official launch. But that'd be where to find it. That or here, »ww2.cox.com/residential/orangeco···ures.cox

Nothing here in lakeside, but that does not mean much. Could be a staged roll out.

Cox reset my modem Apr 24th @ 02:49 am during the maintenance window but nothing has changed on my end, still bonding 4x4 and getting the same speeds with my SB6141.

I'm in your neck of the woods and I'm seeing about 32 down/25 up on Premier package. My modem's also showing 4 bonded upstream channels for the first time.

If you see 25Mbps up , that is just the Powerboost. I get the same result with speedtest.net But if you do a speed test at test.lvcm.com, you'll see that your upload speed will go back down to 2.5Mbps+ after the Powerboost.
