I didn't have any issues with KB2823324. I guess I will update to KB2840149 and hope it does not break anything. But i will wait a little bit more time and follow this thread.

Installed KB2840149 and it caused major problems with both windows and my Norton Internet Security Software -- problems I did not have after installation of KB2823324. I have now restored my system to a state before the installation of the patch and everything is working again. Microsoft may have jumped the gun in issuing the patch.

I downloaded the KB2840149 .msu file (Windows6.1-KB2840149-x64.msu) from Microsoft's download site (not Windows Update) and like you will hold off for a while to see what happens.

Out of curiosity could someone that has KB2823324 installed post the file details of ntfs.sys and then those of KB2840149. It'd be interesting to see if that file changed or just the updater.

I can not give you an answer to that, but something I did notice, minor or not.

This update (KB2840149) still uses the same cert installed from the previous update (KB2823324) on the 12/4/13 here. No biggie, but you would have thought the package would have been updated.
And only valid till June, so I'm not sure what they will validate after that date if users are slow to install. As long as the CRL list is fine I can't see an issue.

System wise the system seems more responsive to say the least, but after 2 reboots, it is presumptuousness to say the least.

KB2840149 came on Patch Tuesday to my WSUS server.

I have not approved it yet but when I do it will be to a few unsuspecting test users. Muhahaha!.

That would correspond with my personal observations of the KB2823324 update.

You mean on April 9th 2013? The .msu files I have a digitally signed April 16th??? Patch Tues is the 2nd Tues of each month not every Tues.

The industry standard terminology for non-patch Tues updates is "out of band".

Sorry, I misspoke.

You are correct.

Most of the time I have no perception of time.

Thanks for pointing that out StuartMW.

I installed the update on one laptop running the Comcast version of Norton 360 (Norton Security Suite). On startup it did seem to take a long time for everything to settle down and let me open Norton. Once "settled" everything seems to be working OK. My suggestion is to give it plenty of time after the restart before you try to do anything. Other than that, it seems to be working OK.

I just installed it on my production machine about 30 minutes ago. So far so good, but then I didn't have any problems with the faulty one. I did make a data backup just in case!

Installed KB2823324 before it was pulled, didn't have any untoward effects from it, didn't bother to uninstall it. Just received KB2840149 from WU and installed, system didn't request to reboot but I did it manually anyway. So far, so good.

What happens if you reboot? Does CHKDSK run every time?

How about scheduled disk defragmentations? Do they run as scheduled?

Thanks. Not being a KAV user I forgot to ask that question too.

The point is that KB2823324 caused other issues not just BSOD's. Does KB2840149 result in any of these too?

Pre-patch ntfs.sts details

KB2840149 ntfs.sys details
Some technical details for Win7 SP1 x64 (took me 1 minute to do this).

Now if someone could do this for the KB2823324 version of ntfs.sys...

POSSIBLY: KB2823324

The above was taken from a restore point. But I don't believe it to be accurate as the date seems out of sorts. However, it is different than the two examples you provided StuartMW See Profile. So it's still up to dabate as to the correct file version for KB2823324. This above screenshot is prior to installing KB2840149.
