How messy is the FTTH install + landlord consent required?
I was wondering how messy (or not) is the FTTH installation process and result? I live on the ground floor so I assume Bell will pull the fibre from the street and make a little sealed (hopefully) hole in the basement to bring the fibre in my flat. Am I assuming correctly?
How messy or clean is the resulting installation (fibre + ONT + UPS)? Do I need the landlord's consent given that Bell will pierce a hole in the basement?
Installation is pretty clean as generally the UPS and ONT stay with the home and we want to make sure it is as clean and neat as possible. ONT and UPS generally are located at the hydro panel, but can be placed anywhere as long as there is a hydro outlet and room and theres a way to reach the existing wiring. The boxes combined dont take up too much room and are a little smaller then the sagemcom. One hole will need to be drilled or sometimes may be fished thru an existing conduit (ground) or other. The hole is always sealed afterwards.
The only sometimes neccessary wiring needed to be done is to run cat5e to where you want the modem which may requiring fishing in house and or drilling a hole. If your unit has cat5e or better then great and just saved the tech more time.
In some rare cases I had to use homeplugs when I couldnt get cat5e to the top floor but the sagemcom from the ONT must always be wired.
