Re: Teksavvy's new branding - Comment Threadsaid by rodjames:I'm just posting this to let everyone know that, upon receipt of my new cable modem, I was very pleasantly surprised with the branding on the outside box, and the mini-instructions within. What new branding? Mine says "THOMSON digital|BROADBAND CABLE MODEM" Do unlimited plans get special modems? |

Hahaha I didn't even know that, that's awesome, I am going to have to go check out one of them in shipping when I go back to Chatham! |

I'm sure someone at Teksavvy can provide them. I am, honestly, recovering at home (very sore at the moment). Sorry. |

Yeah except now it just makes me want a Betty_Behave poster even MOAR!!! |

Oh man.... that Betty poster would have been awkward last summer when I helped get my Grandma hooked up. Much more awkward than telling her that her birth year was too old for the web form. |

why are you guys still using whose very old RCA cable modems because they cost almost nothing because no one wants them? |
|
|
Those boxes are very likely for the DCM476 that TekSavvy sells...which are neither old nor "unwanted..." They're proving quite reliable and are actually the most future-proof out of the approved modems...
Modem-wise, RCA=Technicolor=Thomson |

Well, us backward Canadians roll by the beat of a different drum up here. kidding aside, we've stopped selling those as of last week I believe... they're EOL.. I'm guessing you wont see them at Sears too much longer either. |

It is on Hardware Version 2.1 and not 2.0 but not end of life/EOL. |

In what way is the DCM476 outdated? It uses 8X4 channel bonding on a DOCSIS 3.0 standard...its theoretical max download is 340 Mbps, so it should be good for 150 Mbps at the very least.
Sure the RCA brand itself is quite old but RCA doesn't exist anymore other than a trademark. Thomson, now Technicolor, has the rights to this name and licenses it out to various companies.
The only thing newer would be DOCSIS 3.1 and that is still years away. Perhaps we'll see 8X8 or 16X8 modems before then, but CATV operators might not want to devote so much spectrum to Internet access. DOCSIS 3.1 is much more efficient and they would most likely want to wait for that. |

The DCM476 is EOL?! Does that mean there's a new modem in the works for approval? Considering that's the only one that can do 150/10... |

Speaking of the ST516, anyone want to buy one half price, you send them my way. Mine's still working hardcore, and I won't need it after switching to cable. |

It a DOCSIS 2 modem that's called a DOCSIS 3 modem by Technicolor. The first line on the product page says The DCM476 is a data wired modem based on DOCSIS 2 and featuring GigaEthernet port! » www.technicolor.com/en/h ··· s/dcm476 |
