Re: DSLR Minecraft server I'm trying to find a seed that doesn't drop us in the middle of a forrest, or is just a small island.
I half way thought about loading my personal server image onto the server. It is the same map as the one we are playing, but without the large biomes switch. Even though I know where everything is, and it was made around 1.4.7.... so I've been everywhere.... |

Yes, we have a Minecraft server. It was given to me, and I thought I would share the wealth. I'm not trying to be the next Mindcrack, but it is just a place for DSLR members (and their family) to come play.
Speaking of the whitelist. When the server resets, I am going to thin out the whitelist. There are people on there who requested to be added, and don't play. Right now, this is who is going to be readded.. (By DSLR Username)

When the new map is up, I'll jump back in and play.
I tend to play games in spurts....one game at a time....getting a little bored with Civilization V and Skyrim, so I'll head back to Minecraft and maybe split my time between MC and Skyrim.
One thing I dig (pun intended) about Minecraft is that I find the mining and building aspect very relaxing, so I usually play it for an hour or two before bed - helps me chill out. -- I'll be stretching out the rhyme like gravity stretches time. |

Restart the map now (Well, this weekend), or wait until 1.7 comes out, which who knows when that will be. |

Restart the map now (Well, this weekend), or wait until 1.7 comes out, which who knows when that will be. I am good either way really.
However, one thought has come to mind though that may not make restarting now (well this weekend) a good idea.
My thought is do we want to put a little more planning into this world before we start it? That is to say do we want to lay some light framework around what we do in this new world?
So:
[*] Would we want to predefine common build areas (like a small town near spawn where everyone has a small house)? [*] Minimum distances to build from each others base? [*] Special builds where everyone contributes? [*] Etc.
These were just some things I was thinking about since we started the new map discussion. It may help with keeping people engaged and active on the server going forward.

ironweaselWeezyPremium join:2000-09-13 Belen, NM kudos:1 | I like having my own little portion of the world where I can build crazy contraptions or massive "farms", but I'd be down with a community project type thing too.
Minimum distance is at the players discretion, IMO. We could all spawn next to a village or the nearest one could be 1200 blocks away...hard to say until we actually spawn and explore.
I vote for a restart now and then just hang out until 1.7 rolls out. -- I'll be stretching out the rhyme like gravity stretches time. |

RayMahnahmahnaPremium join:2001-04-02 Mesa, AZ | I think a weekend restart would be good, too. Don't want to put too many "rules" on it, nor do I think we need them. Everyone has been good neighbors so far, not cramping each other. Having a place in a village is always handy, for early safety and trading.
I think my initial nether portal was in an odd place. Maybe this time we stick one on top of a hill or something so its easy to spot. Maybe somewhere near the initial spawn, which would make nether travel to far-off bases handy. -- ON DELETE CASCADE |

neonhomerKK4BFNPremium join:2004-01-27 Edgewater, FL | Since I've mostly figured out portal mechanics, we can build a nether hub to link to each other, or far off places.
I like GCoops idea of our own bases, but then have a community area... similar to Mindcrack. Hmmmm.. |

Weekend restart would be good. I am learned stuff playing on the other build and now I want to get new resources to use. I like the ideas. A spot right near the spawn point for the community hub that is sectioned off as a safe zone for newbs with a central rail station that could lead out to each players off site "base". |

I don't play them, but I looked at the feature list. The main changes are quite a few new biomes, changes to flowers, and expanded fishing.

Snapshots are the Minecraft equivalent of beta versions. They are "snapshots" of the game at a given stage of development. When they add stuff to the game, they release a new snapshot that has the updates and additions.
They release a client and a server version of the snapshot, but if the server runs a snapshot release, you have to have the matching client. |

Yay! New map!
Spawn point drops you into a Plains biome with Swamp, Desert, and Jungle nearby.
For future reference, spawn point is at:

The area around the spawn point will not allow any terrain altering by me. I found the border around that area and have marked the corners. I have started to make a living area, not sure if it is big enough for all of us, is close to the start and the no edit zone, and it is on top of a cave system so it may not be the best place for a community. It should have basic protection now and I have started building a tower that has stuff in it. |

Met someone new today on there. Not sure who it was yet, but they have a hut on the hill by the starting point. The mine near the commune has a nice deep chasm in it that I haven't finished exploring yet. It hasn't hit bedrock yet, and there is a lot of stuff down there. There is some Obsidian but it is close to the dead zone so it may not be able to be mined. |

No, there is no way to prevent someone from building in a certain area.
Two new users were added to the server. Justin (nyc863) , and Noiche....

did I build in the wrong spot I kept spawning near the tower so went down the valley over to the next hill and built a tiny shack there. should I have gone further? |
|
fnord76 join:2002-05-14 Troy, IL kudos:1 | you can go where ever you want. the Tower is just a beacon for first starters to come to to get going. It may be a Communal Area eventually if we decide to do that. |
