Re: need Video card advice please

BUT!!
I had a thought. (dont say anything lol)
Right now my monitor is 1920 x 1080
With the SC GTX 780 can I get a higher resolution monitor? (I wouldnt mind that at all )

Defnitely upgrade to 1440 or 1600p. That 780 won't even begin to stretch it's legs running a single 1080p monitor. It's almost a waste to be honest.

I see you guys are getting him hooked on an upgrade loop.

I'd say go for three 1080p monitors or go for a 1440/1600p.

Well I was looking at that Asus
»www.newegg.com/Product/P ··· odl3EA_g
(which is a little cheaper at Amazon BTW)
Seems like a good deal. I am still researching a bit.

How is that monitor while gaming TruSmoke? I see it has a 5MS response time.

I'm impressed by this thread. Personally I can't justify the high cost of some of the cards listed. In my home we use HDMI displays. To the best of my understanding the frame rate is limited to 60 FPS from graphics card to device.

Got a question,
My card just came in.
Other than swapping cards , going to the Nvidia web site and updating drivers is there anything else I need to do?

Some said I need to check the firmware once the card is installed because there was an update a while ago? I dont know how to do that.

Bob, check this thread here »www.evga.com/forums/tm.a ··· &mpage=1

You can either check your BIOS through the Nvidia control panel. Or flip the card over and get the BIOS version on the back of the PCB. There's tiny tag with the numbers.

Mine was already the new version. Anything shipping probably in the last week or two, more then likely has updated BIOS.

Well, to check looks pretty simple. Right through the Nvidia control panel. And on the card as Ghast said.
Thank You
Good stuff.

I will install tomorrow I think. I want to blow her out and all.

I'm installing mine tonight. I'll ahve some install pics to come soon after.

Let us know Bob how the current drivers work for you. I upgraded last night to 320.49

I've been reading some horror stories though with the 7 series cards.

So what are the recommended drivers if not the most current from the Nvidia site?

All of them have mixed reviews.

Supposedly 320.18 are the worst performing. I went with 320.49 which are the newest.

Welp shes in.
Acourding to real temp its idling at 22C (which is a whole 10C lower than the SC GTX 580)

Ran a few MWO games and I'm getting 124 FPS in game. Temp idles at about 28c and maxed out at 63c

I got the latest drivers from Nvidia web site 320.49

heres what I,m thinking

Yes I overclocked this machine. (actually very proud of that, lol, I discovered off set voltages. Played with it for 3 weeks and got it to work perfect at 4.5 GHz) (god forbid I lose that bios profile

But, I have never overclocked a GPU before. Never had to.
Thats why I bought this SC GTX 780. Figured its already super clocked, no? (should be plenty for me I think)

Should I install anything from the EVGA site? I see precision X and stuff there, like I said I'm not really interested in over clocking but will that piece of software tell me temps and fan speeds and stuff in real time?

Na. MWO really shines at 130FPS. See if you can eek out a few more.

It does show all of that info. Another program I like using for monitoring is GPU-Z. Here's a screenshot of both running.

PrecisionX is based off of RivaTuner, so if you've used that before, you'll notice many similarities once you start digging through the menus.

Hi, I figured I would post here in the same place.

I now have the SC GTX 780 in.
Then I picked up another monitor which was kind of recommended here.
»www.amazon.com/PB278Q-27 ··· s=pb278q

It looks great and all. But in game I seem to be limited to 60-FPS. After I switched monitors.

With my old monitor (which is a very good one I think)
»www.amazon.com/computers ··· 032ANC00
which was 1920 x 1080

VSynk is definitely not enabled in the games and I dont see a setting for that in the Nvidia panel anywhere.
I was getting like 145 FPS before, LOL, which I know is ridiculous , but like I said, something is now limiting my FPS.

Anyone have any Ideas?

You ain't going to get 145fps running at this resolution. Only way you're going to do that is if you run 2 of these cards in SLI.

Other then that, check the control panel one more time and see if you have Vsync set to on, or Adaptive enabled.

Check your games for both Vsync and triple buffering. Enable both and enjoy the smoothness .
