Signing up for VDSL without having to buy the Sagemcom.

Hi everyone & specifically Marc,

will it be possible in the future to sign up for VDSL in Ontario without having to purchase or rent one of these horrible Bell modems?

I'm interested in signing up for the VDSL service but I need a modem that will guarantee a more stable connection. I don't also want to have to buy/rent the flaky Bell Sagemcom, but I'm willing to pay the price of bandwidth hit to my upstream.

If this can be arranged then I'm sure I'd find a few new sign ups

Thanks,
Jonathan

Sagemcom works fine in bridge mode if you're on a 7330.

Not everyone is lucky enough to avoid getting put on a Stinger. Depending on where you live you may have next to zero chance to get on a 7330.

Please excuse a newbie question! What is a "Stinger" and "7330" and how does one determine if this is the situation in my case? I am having horrendous problems with sync no surf issues. 25/10 dsl, Sagecom (FAST2864_v6740S firmware), Brampton ON.

Does the new firmware update (which I haven't received yet) address the problems with this modem?

This is the type of hardware used on Bell's end to send signal to your modem.

If you post your information in the »TekSavvy Direct forum, we would be able to tell you if you are on a Stinger or a 7330.

Martin

Thanks for your very quick response Martin. What information in particular do you need, and should I start a new topic in the forum link you gave or post in an existing thread (which one) in that forum.

Twinge,

What is the current version number now?

Were you able to enable telnet from this version directly (without downgrade)?

It was FAST2864_v77428. I do not know for sure that this is the version that Teksavvy received the notification about since the notification did not show the version number. It does appear to be the newest and it appeared around the time that the notice was delivered to Teksavvy. Updating to it did not disable telnet access. I already had telnet enabled when I took it so I do not know if it disables the ability to turn on telnet if you do not already have it enabled.
