canon 1d4, 7d, 5diii - wifi and iphone connect

does anyone know if canon supports a wifi connection to their late-model cameras that an iphone, ipad can connect to for remote view/control of the camera?

i remember a thread not to long ago about this, short answer is no. you need some extra hardware dongle to do it.

i've seen camranger. i'm pretty sure there are other solutions. just polling for input. there should be a way to talk to the camera either thru a cable or canon's wifi adapter.

i'm wondering if it's not only the 6d, but any camera with wifi.
