There you have it!! (even if it just 3 days, at least for the time being)

Very different from last year, that's for sure.

Trying the central air today, possibly tomorrow as well, may be even Monday, but not really needed, been upper 70's to lower 80's, run that more when its 90 plus. Have a nice easterly wind going, though its a dry wind, helps some while standing in the sun.

It's been 84F here the last two days with slightly cooler temps on the way for the rest of the week (upper 70s, near 80F but not quite).

Yeah, it's getting back to "normal" here -- cloudy and not as warm as before.

The comparison to last year is rather interesting:

That's just wet snow, and it's AK, so it doesn't really count.

A massive dome of high pressure, sometimes referred to as a "heat dome," has set up shop over Alaska, bringing all-time record temperatures just a few weeks after parts of the state had a record cold start to spring. In some cases, towns in Alaska were warmer on Monday and Tuesday than most locations in the lower 48 states.

I was in Canada driving the Alcan and back for most of that heat wave.

Good thing it's supposed to be nice and warm again this week.

I don't think it would make that much of a difference.

In an upstairs apt, you can usually leave all your windows and all but the main door open night time, and that will usually cool it down reasonably well.

This time of the year I'm glad I don't live in Phoenix, or even in Vancouver any more. The thing that *really* sucks in the SW is that their daytime low can be 10F or more higher than our daytime high...

It got down to 100º in death valley last night, but you are right...it's not the heat, it's the humidity.
With all the rain up until last week, the heat and the mugginess even after the sun goes down . make it really hard to sleep.
still better than anywhere in the SW.

If your window type/lease allows a small A/C (window or portable) can make life a lot more comfortable.

I was in a Home Depot today and heard a worker tell someone that they were out of air conditioners. It was like 93 today. Didn't feel that bad to me. But maybe all the yearts in Texas have allowed me to adapt better.

Just wait until for the October to April period. That's a better test of the newcomers.

A week of hot thins the herd less then a month of gray.
Most imports can handle the summer months, February alone covers half the attrition rate.

As long as I can ski, I will be good. Originally from PA and prefer the cold (rain is ok but I prefer snow).

Skiing you can do
from DuPont Crystal Mtn or White pass offer much better than average downhill and awesome cross country opportunities
with Mt Hood , Mt Baker, Mission ridge for awesome weekends.

And any good ski hill is a great place to start a hike in the summer (most run at least one chair or gondola all summer so you can ride to 7k feet to start your hike) also downhill mountain biking is like skiing without snow for serious thrillseekers.

Most of the time you'll have to settle for the rain, at least in the lowlands. Up in the mountains, well, that's a whole different ballgame.

That's good to know. May have to look into that once we have settled more into the house and I can spend time doing those kinds of things as opposed to unpacking.
