I don't like to be the grinch in all this, but why are we saddling the phone companies with our problems? Easily the far majority of "thefts" are "I left it some place and someone took it". When it comes down to it, no other expensive or electronic items are being asked to be locked down like phones are. TVs can be stolen, hooked up to other cable services. Car stereos, can be installed in other cars. Jewelry, can be worn by other...people. CAR! Cars can be stolen, driven by anyone anywhere.
But because we make it easy for incompetent people to handle $600 devices and lose them, were gonna point fingers. Blacklist don't work, instead have them put that money into mandatory location and remote wipe services on all phones.
