Sure is. I just started using Open Office for my one letter a year. I should try others.

I use Kingsoft Office ... has just three modules - Writer, Spreadsheet, and Presentation .. just what I need.
How do I specify Kingsoft in the Other category?

LibreOffice all the way. I don't like what Oracle did to The Document Foundation.

() None of the above.

Incompatibility isn't worth saving ~$75/seat.

Google Docs can't do simple tasks, nor render output accurately.
Similar negative experiences with Star Office, Abi Word, et al.

Re: Poll - Free Office Suites

I'm using Libre Office because of what has happened to Open Office.

I am pleasantly surprised to see how well Libre Office is doing in this poll. I just recently switched from OpenOffice. Libre Office is reasonably compatible with MS Office -- the only real limitation in my home usage of the product is that macros from MS Office aren't easily transferred to Libre Office.

You realize that one is a fork of the other, right? There's hardly any reason for anyone to use OpenOffice anymore.

For me, it's mostly LibreOffice and, when good internet functionality is needed, Google Docs.

I gave LibreOffice a shot since it was what all the cool kids were saying you should use for meritorious philosophical ideas, rather than functional reasons, but sadly my experience wasn't as smooth as it was with OpenOffice. LibreOffice touts a lot of features but I encountered a few issues with the interface and file compatibility that suggest they have a ways to go before its as polished as Open Office.

I use Apache's Open Office on Win 8. It is great. Looking forward to the soon to be released ver 4.

I tried Libre and it wouldn't install on Win 8. In the past, I had tried the OLD Open Office (Oracle's) on XP Pro and had nothing but problems. I tried Libre on XP Pro also and had lots of problems with it. So, I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice Apache's Open Office is on Win 8.

I tried libreoffice impress and it was slow as hell to switch slides when you are using the slideshows. I went back to Microsoft Office for that reason, it was driving me crazy.

OO here. It works great for me so I won´t change to anything else until the suite ceases to exist.
