 | Any leverage getting ATT to fix old underground wiring? I recently had ATT out at my location repairing and getting a clean pair of copper lines back to the "house" after a recent upgrade in my area. A month or two back ATT replaced a section of overhead wiring up my street and some wires got mixed resulting in my speed taking a nosedive. All well and simple, Sonic arranged for ATT to come inspect the lines and the issues were somewhat corrected. The troubling part was the tech ran some line tests and confirmed that from the "house" to my home there was about a 13+Mbps loss from the full 20Mbps! I'm only around 4000' to 6000' away. He felt there was no reason I couldn't be getting at least double my current speeds based on his line tests. (I'm syncing at just around 7.5-8Mbps at the moment.) The tech is certain the bottleneck is the last 350' piece of old cable, the only section they couldn't inspect which is the underground run from the box to the first pole. He said he would put in an inspection request with those in charge, but wasn't all that hopeful anything would become of it. Is it anyone's experience that ATT would ever capitulate and replace this last bit of wiring? As a Sonic customer I know I don't really have any bargaining tools with ATT, but surely there must be something that can be done to encourage them to replace that last bit. |

| As far as I know you only have any real leverage if the line condition is so bad that it effects regular phone service. Unfortunately there is no limit on how poorly a line can perform for DSL purposes -- Got some spare cpu cycles ? Join Team Helix or Team Starfire! |
