[Speed] On Comcast, Nexus 7 is slower, everything else is faster
Just installed Comcast HSI after getting fed up with slow & unreliable AT&T DSL.
The speed of every device on my home network has increased up to 10x EXCEPT the download speed on my Nexus 7 has decreased?
Setup is a Ubee D3.0 modem feeding into a Asus RT-N53 router. Essentially, I just unplugged the DSL modem and plugged in the cable modem. Doing that and changing nothing else drops the download speed on the Nexus 7 from 1.8 - 1.9 mbps on DSL to 0.8 - 1.0 on Comcast. Upload speed is 500 kbps on DSL and 6.2 mbps on Comcast.
If I switch back to the DSL modem the download speed on the N7 increases, repeatably.
If I connect the N7 to the WiFi at work I get 1.9 mbps download. If I connect the N7 to my T-Mobile 4G hotspot I get over 5 mbps download. So it is capable of high speed download. Restarting the N7 has no effect.
All the PCs in the house & Android phones see higher download and upload speeds with Comcast.
So what's different when my network is connected to Comcast vs AT&T that makes the Nexus 7 unhappy (or makes Comcast unhappy with the Nexus 7)?

That is not a huge difference. Maybe the modem is a tad bit too close to the router?

Just want to chime in that I have the N7 and Comcast at home. I have no issue.
What are you using to test speed with? It may be the tablet version of whatever you are using works differently than the phone version and for whatever reason doesn't dig comcast.
I was using Speedtest.net on the PC and their app on the N7, and also on another Android device that does get faster download speeds with Comcast. Also I see things like app updates are moving more slowly on the N7.
I mean, I can take the N7 and my slow Android phone, put them side by side, run the Speedtest.net app on each one, and get vastly faster download with the slow Android phone than with the N7 on Comcast. With DSL, the two devices have essentially the same download speed @ the DSL line speed.
Something is configured wrong somewhere it seems. Personally I would reset both the modem and router (Hard reset the router) and set it up all over again. Also make sure the firmware is up to date.

Following up on this for posterity and it case it helps anybody else troubleshoot:
This is with an Asus RT-N53 router, a Ubee 3513 modem.
I found that since switching to Comcast from AT&T DSL, my Nexus 7 had very slow download speeds (0.5 Mb) while my old Android phone had fast download speeds (11 Mb). Upload speeds were the same on both, ~ 5 Mb.
Then I got a Windows 8 laptop and found it had similarly slow download speeds on WiFi, but full download speed on a hardwired network connection to the router.
Testing all the devices in the house revealed:
Windows XP, Windows 7, Android Gingerbread = fast WiFi download
Windows 8, Android Jelly Bean = slow WiFi download
I had a cheap N router laying around so I set that up as an access point, running through the home powerline networking, to the Asus router. Got faster download speeds (~11 Mb) on all WiFi devices.
So it points to the router. Some people had reported slow wireless download speeds on this router that they had fixed by downgrading from V3 to V1 firmware. Plus, there was a later revision of the router firmware than I was running that I had tried before but it made the router wonky and crashy. But one of the bug fixes in this later revision was "Comcast IPv6 related issues". Maybe related? So I tried updating to the latest firmware, from 18.104.22.168.132 to 22.214.171.124.264.
That fixed the problem. Now getting full Comcast speed (~25 Mb) on the WiFi connections with everything.
