Have tried yet unplugging it at the drive and flipping the cable over ? ( ignoring the red line and #1 pin position)

That's why I suggested it again. Most likely cause, doesn't cost anything and only takes a moment.

Floppy drive is working perfectly now and the light is turning off when the drive is not being used. Sure enough I had to try many different ways to plug the cable in the motherboard and in the drive. The thing that got me was on the non-twisted end the cable had the 3rd pin hole kinda blocked off but there was just enough room to get the pin from the motherboard to slide on in.

Glad it worked. Those old floppy drives can be tricky.

and that is why I am really glad they invented SATA and replaced the floppy drives with USB sticks and optical disks.
