[INTERNET] DHCP Issues - Same IP for 5 months straight

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has been getting the same IP for the past month or 2?? I have had the same IP for the past 5 months with my Arris TG862G. I have reset the modem and even factory reset the modem multiple times, done IPCONFIG /release/renew, I have reset the Winsock and TCP/IP, and still I am pulling the same IP. When I call into Tech Support mentioning this they do not seem to know how to fix the issue. I have a huge feeling there is a DHCP server issue. Here are my modem logs which show the problems since April 14, 2013 (how far back the log will go):

I think there are problems with the DHCP server if my modem is sending a request to the server for a new IP and it is erroring out and renewing the lease on the same IP. I am about to lose my mind on this especially since the service for residential is Dynamic, not static. When I mentioned it to the agent Chris, he said this is way over his head and he does not understand anything I am saying. Really?? You get trained on a tool and that is it? What if the tool is down, or what about doing troubleshooting old school and knowing what event logs mean. Help Me please!

Aren't all cable companies like this? On Rogers my modem has renewed with the same IP address for months.

This isn't an issue, it's by design. Once in a while I'm fortunate enough to have the same IP for half a year (or so it seems) and usually I have the same IP for at least 3 months.

Are you saying you want a new IP?

If you definitely want a new one, change your MAC address or plug it into a different network card. You could also completely disconnect your modem overnight and reset it for good measure and you'll probably force one there too.

Re: [INTERNET] DHCP Issues - Same IP for 5 months straight

Hi Keaters,

Can you send me a PM with your MAC?

This isn't abnormal. Pretty sure I had the same IP on Cogeco for almost 3 years until I moved. When I lived with my parents, they had the same IP on Rogers for more than year at a time.
