[Anime] Attack on Titan

Recently discovered Attack on Titan (also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese) via another thread in this forum, and so far it's pretty good. Who else is watching this series, and what are your thoughts?

I have seen all but yesterdays episode. I like the series, its a nice change of pace from the normal fare. The week before last week caught me by surprise, i wasn't expecting the main character to get his arm and leg chomped off. This like any anime can be easily undone, but if i had to guess i would think this is going to be some sort of reveal towards his and his sisters relationship to the titans. Once I watch yesterdays episode that will likely clear that up.

AoT is pretty awesome so far. It has a huge global following at the moment, tons of fan art, and someone even going as far to do a chainsaw carving of the wall with the titan over it.

I'm really enjoying the series and have seen all 7 released episodes (I'm resisting reading the manga). Episode 5 really caught me off guard and episode 7 did the same. Not as much so, but I was definitely surprised.

Great animation, voice acting and just overall quality material here. Definitely my anime of the year.

Huh? I watched episode 8 on Sunday. It actually came out early this week on Crunchyroll.

Hmmm... You're right. Your post prompted me to check under the Japanese name for the series, and I found ep. 8. I usually search under the English name and find it, but I guess for some reason it didn't come up this time. Thanks!

With the most recent episode I am happy to see the main lead male back. I was worried for a bit that they were going to write him off, but the lack of build up to a new lead male made that unlikely. It will be fun to see how they explain his mutation, and the frequency that this happens going forward. It will also be interesting how this ties in with the origins of the Titans. I am sure it will come down to mans twisted desires for power.

One thing I noticed was that it appeared as if he was wired into the titan. I wonder if the other titans have similar setups where humans reside inside of them or control them remotely. It might also be a way of controlling population too - like, what's up with the government? They seem pretty fishy to me.

Did you notice that when he emerged from the Titan he was in the one place that they can kill them?

Wasn't wired. Looked more like nerves, muscles, tendons, and organic material.

I saw that as well, it will be interesting to see if all titans are from the same mold, or if this is a more unique situation. It reminds me of the Zombie movie Warm Bodies, though it never came up in the movie, how would you react if the people you were battling just a few moments ago were not the mindless zombies you thought? If their was a hope for rescue. Could you continue the fight the same way? I dont know if this is where Titans will go, but it would add an unusual twist.

At that point he was rather burnt out, regrowing body parts cannot be cheap in a energy standpoint. I think he just was spent and dropped where he did.

Part of me wants to read the Manga to see where this is going, on the other hand I know what that does to my entertainment of the Anime. I hope it continues to play out the way its going.

He didn't just happen to drop in that spot. You can actually see him emerging from the Titan in that spot. Personally, I think that they were designed to be run by humans and something happened. Also, I think that Erin's key that he got from his father and carries around his neck will have something to do with him being able to control them. But we will see.

Just watched ep. 9. Wow!!!.... just.... WOW!!!

Is it just me, or do these episodes seem to fly by so quickly when you're watching them too? I started watching and next thing I knew it was over, and the way this last episode ended, I was like, "WTF?! How could they ending it there like that???! "

Its getting really juicy!

Dude, I feel the same way. I almost feel like I should have just held off until the season was over so I could just marathon them. The first season is slated to be 25 episodes, but the manga is still ongoing, so with the popularity of this series I think we're going to totally get a season 2 - at least I damn well hope so.

I wouldn't bet on it. They ended Katekyo Hitman Reborn, and Bleach, even though the mangas were and are still going on respectively, and those were/are both insanely popular! »/r0/download/1···_ani.gif

Sure, it's not guaranteed, but you have to look at it from the perspective that the people working on the series are. Both anime you listed were incredibly popular and brought in a ton of money. Most of the time, if an anime is discontinued, it's because it's tapering off and not making them enough money to be worth continuing.

We often see anime and manga cancelled because of this. One manga I really enjoyed, Ga Rei, ran into this issue. The story got a little ridiculous and readership dropped, so they cancelled it which lead to the manga author having to rush the ending in one volume. This resulted in a rather poor ending that left much unexplained and was not satisfying for anyone that read the series.

As long as AoT continues to be as ravenously popular as it is, I expect we'll either see a continuation of the anime or at the very least a movie or movies based on various arcs. The last time I can recall something being as popular as this was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which was just as viral, and they're still making movies based on the light novels.

Now, there's always the potential for them to do an original anime ending, which has happened in many anime over the years. These are almost always unsatisfying for fans, especially those that know the manga is still ongoing and tons of story is being left out, but I suspect the backlash on that would be huge for a series like that. Still, I wouldn't put it past them.

It all goes down to viewers, ratings, and merchandise/DVD/Blu-Ray sales. As long as money is flowing in they'll probably continue the series in some way.

Chances are you might not find it under the English name. Try searching for it under the Japanese name, Shingeki no Kyojin. I wasn't able to find the anime or manga online when I searched for it under the English name, but found it easily when I searched for it under the Japanese name.

Well, if you want something that's downloadable, try checking the Manga apps on your phone/tablet to start with if you want to read it on the go. Are you using Android, or iOS?
If you're using Android, this is the manga app that I use, MangaSearcher.
You can actually download the chapters to your phone or tablet, and it has Shingeki No Kyojin, among many other popular mangas that I follow.

As for manga sites, this is the one that I use to read the chapters on my computer: »www.mangapanda.com/shingeki-no-kyojin

Hope this helps.

Why no option to watch it? I download the episodes weekly and watch them.

Thanks I'll look into it,....

As for watching Attack on Titan I would do so through crunchyroll. I don't know of any other legal way beyond maybe whatever clips they have on youtube.

Thats a sticking point for me since I don't want any part of it if it isn't 100% legal,...

I'll probably end up just buying the books off of Amazon since I'm finding precious little in the way of legit downloads so far.

I watch both Amazon Instant and CrunchyRoll on the Roku--look very much the same. (I've hardly noticed Amazon ever having any anime for streaming, sad to say.)

So earlier this week while reading about E3 I heard somebody mention the Attack on Titan theme and how it goes with everything after I saw the dub over Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.

Thought the intro was cool so I checked out the manga....two days later I've read up till the most recent release. I got burnt out on Gantz but so far it's enough of a mind f**k that I can't wait to read more.
