Wireless auction hinders new wireleess entrants

And the hits keep on coming.

Industry Canada Rules say that a deposit must be made by June 11 for the upcoming 700mhz spectrum auction.

Once they've made that deposit they are prohibited from having any discussions with other companies also registered for the auction, about mergers or potential aquisitions.

Since all three new entrants are up for grabs, this screws them over big time.

They shouldn't have completely crossed out all talks. Would've been much simpler to say that the spectrum license cannot be transferred to an already established wireless company in case of a sale/merger.

Regardless the Big 3 can't formally purchase the new entrants until mid 2014 anyways which is well after the 700MHz auction.
However I agree that not allowing talks while the auction is place will definitely cause concern for the new entrant owners wanting to sell.

Reading the Post, I see he government is going to allow the new entrants to pay for the spectrum over 5yrs. However if they allow Robellus to buy up the unused spectrum and/or the new entrants, its a moot point.
