[Indy] Looking to Switch to BHN, best way to go?

Hey guys! I've been lurking this forum for years, but finally registered to get some info. Gary, I actually IM'd you about this yesterday, but thought maybe that is bad form for a new member?

Anyhow currently I'm on ATT for DSL and phone, DirectTV for TV, ADT over telco for security monitoring in Indianapolis.

We just had our first baby WAY early (3.5 months early, 1 lb 1oz.. check out »andrewanderin.com for cuteness). She's finally home and thriving but we are obviously in cost control mode and trying to figure out some ways to save money and simplify.

I work from home most days of the week so internet speed is important, and I'm used to fairly good device quality from DirecTV (UI interface, app streaming capabilities, etc). However AT&T is the worst to deal with, the speed available to me is not good, and we only use the phone phone for security monitoring. ADT keeps bumping our rate which is now 52 a month.

Gary's responsiveness on this forum is my main reason for thinking of switching to BHN for the above services as my options are few here, and I didn't have a great experience with a BH for a cable modem some 8 years back (the tech was not so useful, looked like hell, local office customer support was not so great).

We currently pay for one of the upper packages on Direct TV with too many movie packages (mostly trials that we now pay for... we'll keep HBO though).

House breakdown is as follows: HD in living room, where the whole home DVR is, HD tv in one bedroom, and HD would be nice to have upstairs to plug into computer monitor's HDMI at the treadmill/walking desk, but not necessary if a PC or mac streaming client exists for BHN. Everything is run from the closet in the nursery, I've run RG6 and cat6 to most rooms, though the cable run for upstairs is on the wrong wall so I'd have to do something myself I suppose.

I'm hoping you might have some advice on best deals/bundles available, how to go about signing up for best value/lowest installation costs, etc.

We'd be interested in killing off ADT if I could get monitoring and keep our homeowner's discount, but I'm not sure what kind of up front costs I'm looking at for the BHN security system (I'm guessing it would be a new system).

We honestly don't NEED a home phone as we never answer it, but if it made sense to keep with a bundle we would.

Thanks guys!

They can take over your existing ADT system in most cases so the up front potentially wont be too bad (and the system likely has more perks than your current if I had to guess).
You could also dump the phone line if you dont use the house phone since the BHN security is over the internet with cell back up. That would save probably 20 a month in monitoring costs + your monthly phone bill.

Well first off Congrats to you and your wife and to your beautiful daughter Coraline!! She looks like a little princess!! And speaking of princesses... As the father of twin 6 y.o. girls I can tell you... start learning the Disney Princess names now!! Gary is a true asset to this community and will most certainly be able to get you in some sort of plan that will be a good balance of performance and price. The best place to start a direct contact with Gary is in the BHN direct forums here: »/fo ··· sedirect You can provide him your home address and current phone # there as it's a secure one on one forum environment. He will usually respond within a few hours give or take. I am in the Tampa Bay Florida market and I have all BHN services except security (2 HDDVR's, 90/10 Lightning HSI & Phone) and I pay about $183.00 a month. Security would add about $35 a month to my services if memory serves. Since you are a new customer you probably will be eligible for some promotional discounts as well so that's a plus right!?!? Welcome to the community here and feel free to IM me should the need arise.

AJ here's the deal... I really need to have one of our sales specialists talk to you about pricing especially as it applies to the security stuff...open a direct forms thread (see the post right above mine for the link) with your contact info and I'll have someone call you. As for the all your other technical or service needs I'm here for you. Fair deal?

As for all the kindness shown in this thread ...all I can say is wow....thank you {blushing}.

Yeah I have to agree with Bill when it comes to getting support Gary is the best, he actually cares about this community and he is the reason why I keep coming back. If you need anything or have a problem Gary is the way to go and if you just have questions about routers or switches Gary can help.... thanks to him I have all my devices wired to a switch that I paid almost nothing for and it works great, all I have to say is if you need help I am more than willing to help but Gary is the person who can makes things happen; I have to give it to the BHN for having him assigned because he truly is an asset to the company!

Gary,

I figured I'd reply regarding the home security not being available in Indy here since others may be interested in that service.

FWIW the reason I knew about it is somehow I was researching other monitoring options and the tampa area brighthouse security link showed up in my google searches. Clicking on that link redirects me to this:

»brighthouse.com/indianap ··· security

though interestingly enough the state licensing code at the bottom is still for florida.
