Re: [Off-Topic] General conversation for the BHN users

Yeah Vonage has worked great for me so no complaints. Plus work pays for it.

What did you use to make a pretty diagram? I am use to seeing Visio's here at the office when I deal with our network folks. When Ibuy my house soon, my setup will be a bit larger finally, and will want to look for a decent way to keep track of it all.

That was Visio.

Hah, guess our network engineers go for function over form.

lol... I love Visio (which pains me to say because I hate Microsoft sooooooooo much).

I like making their diagrams.

I have another one for my satellite configuration too (which is a bit more complicated than you would probably think), but I gotta update that one too.

Milkman, I know enough about networking to get my simple setup working, but why do you have the two printers on their own hub? Were you simply just leaving extra ports on your other switch open? Or are those printers quite a distance away from the other switch(es) / use less cabling?

And did you manually import the images for your devices?

Yeah you pretty much nailed it. Basically at one time I had 3 printers hooked up to that hub. I didn't have the ports available on my main desk switch so I did that. I could eliminate it , but it works so I just leave it there. Plus when I find the right printer, I plan on buying a cheap one that I can use for duplex jobs.

I found the images for my devices on the net, and just copied/pasted them into Visio.

So we finally got some rain here today...one day I won't need to water the new landscaping (thankyou rain gods).

All it seems to have done here is rain for the last couple of days anyway

Do share...I'm somewhat sketchy on using my well water...after that guy was swallowed up by the sinkhole all I can think of is that poor guy....perhaps he watered too much

I happen to know that was not the case. A friend of mine is the next door neighbor, whose house is one of the houses being demolished today You should be fine with your well. Heck, only very small sinkholes opened up last year when the strawberry fields were in danger from the cold, and just about every strawberry farmer ran their sprinklers all night.

Yea I know but the thought does go through your mind especially if you are me who does use his well water a lot. I have a pretty decent size yard with lots of new landscaping.

Well I finally finished updating the home entertainment diagram I told you guys about before. This one was for a satellite site that I once heavily participated in, and needed a schematic of what my system looked like.

Okay I need your help. Looking to install a 20ft flagpole in front of the house but finding a decent one at a decent price has been a problem. Open to ideas especially for those who have installed one already. I liked the one at Harbor Frieght and it gets good ratings and price HOWEVER the flag cannot be lowered to half mast which is important in those rare situations where it's required.

Sad that it isn't as rare as it should be these days.

I wouldn't mind a flagpole out here either, but I would want the flag up 24/7 so I need a light, and I am not sure I want to get into that.

they make pretty good solar powered ones now so you wouldnt really need to run wire or anything in your yard for the light

and thank you both of you for knowing about needing a light on the flag at night and participating in half mast days. A lot of people don't know about these things and display the flag improperly. I am a veteran and seeing that hurts. Thanks again!

Yes it absolutely must be lit at night UNLESS you take it down....the solar light I'm looking at also comes with high ratings so gonna try that one first. It lights from top down vs the cheap ones that mounts under the flag and points up.

My neighbors have that one and I think it looks much nicer than the ones on the ground. It's much brighter too.

I was doing a little research on lighting up the flag at night and discovered there is a whole section in the United States code on how to properly display the flag plus many other requirements about the flag. Very interesting reading.
heres the link to the US code:

Tech just left and I now have my static IP. How lovely to not have to enter a DDNS domain and get to my server.

If your router is properly configured and power never drops from the modem and router your IP won't change anyway. I have had the same IP for well over a year now.

Nice to not have to reboot router anymore, unlike the Dlink.
Zero wireless connection complaints from family since upgrading to Asus.
That should keep a few gray hairs from popping up.
