Re: [Off-Topic] General conversation for the BHN users

I slaved through the backyard mow session think I'll put off front until this evening. One thing I did notice...grass is finally growing slower....a good sign this weekly ritual will become bi-weekly soon enough

Yep. I noticed the same thing. It's wonderful. Mowing every 4-5 days got old real fast. I'll probably mow tomorrow, which will be 11 days since I did it last.

So put me on a highway, and show me a sign.
And take it to the limit one more time...

Will have to wait another week or two Gary to write it off, with the weather we're expected to have this week...

Yup I know....almost had to break out the boat a bit ago...now that was a serious rain storm and more headed this way. I think we ended up with at least 1.5 inches from that short little storm alone.

So I was thinking of putting some cameras in to supplement my BHN alarm cameras.

Is this what you used Gary?

Also, did you have these on a dedicated wireless router (so as not to take up too much bandwidth on your "core wireless" router???

Lastly what did you use to follow and record?

Thanks in advance!

Those will work for indoor or protected outdoor areas yes... I use Blue Iris which does not have the follow feature. Use ispy for that but its buggy and slow as hell....just awful. Blue Iris is awesomeness...but you will pay $49 for it.

That camera however does not have a cut filter....you may want to hit amazon and look for 8910 which does.

Oh yea Gary I been meaning to ask you, when my area eventually gets Lightning 90
will the Lightning 60 folks see the extra bonded channels or just the Lightning 90 folks will get the extra bonded channels?

I had no idea what a cut filter was. I googled it and learned. Thanks much!

Nope...my router can handle more TCP connections than god...not at all worried about all the cameras impacting it and have never noticed so much as a blip in performance.

lol... I have a pretty good router too, so I think it will be ok as well, but just planning as best I can.

Thanks.

These cameras will not push that much data through your router honestly....very low impact unless you have a ton of them.

How many did you have if you don't mind me asking. I was thinking MAYBE 4 tops. Not sure.

I pitty the poor soul who tries to break in....he won't get past the cameras but if he does in some lapse of something the alarm will take care of the rest....avg response time here is very fast.

WOW dude - that is a LOT of cameras (and a lot of money). I assume since you said they could be outside under cover (like under an eve I assume) that you had some outside too.

If you had some of these outside, how old is your oldest one??? Wondering how it survived the elements (even protected).

Work as well, then home to continue my binge-watching session of Sons of Anarchy. Started S1 Sunday night, and am now up to S03E06 after 3 straight nights of it.

Hey Gary did/do you have any of these cameras mounted outside your home. You mentioned "protected area" and I wondered if under the eve close to my house is protected enough.

Yes 3 of them are the indoor used outdoor in areas where rain exposure is not likely unless rain can flow upward from the ground. I mounted them upside down with electronics package at the highest point totally out of exposure and then flipped the orientation in the video settings. Had them in the elements for quite some time no problems. Other areas I forked over the extra cash for the weatherproof models with POE but beware...these weatherpoof units are buggy...it took me 4 to get 1 that finally worked...thank you Amazon!

The weatherproof units also suffer from a sometimes nasty firmware bug yet to be fixed that can cause the video to become bright/dim over and over again if the camera is placed in just the right lighting conditions at the right moment. So you may have to play a little.
