E4200v2 and 150/10

I am currently running a Linksys E4200v2 and I am wondering if it would be enough to handle 150/10 with Speedboost.

I was looking at the SNB WAN-LAN Throughput and the EA4200v2 tops out at:

»www.smallnetbuilder.com/ ··· rts/view

Cisco Maximum Performance Dual-Band N N900 Router (Linksys E4200V2) 254.3

If it's not sufficiently capable would the RT-N66U be a better option for the 150/10 internet package ?

I've also come across this on SNB:

»forums.smallnetbuilder.c ··· tcount=7

First off why anyone would get the Linksys 4500 over the EA-4200v2 is beyond me. The 4200v2 has a much faster processor and double the RAM and FLASH RAM.

With that said, I have both the Asus RT-N66U and the Linksys EA-4200v2.
They are very close:

1 - 4200 read write speed is much faster than the Asus.

2 - Direct connect of my 2TB HD runs much faster on the EA-4200. no lockups

3 - Range is about the same. ssinsider shows the 4200 at 2.4gh - 450 mps and 5.0 ghz at 450 mps, the Asus shows 2.4 ghz at 212 mps and the 5.0 at 450 mps. Signal strength about equal on the 5.0 and 4200 slightly better on the 2.4

4 - Starcraft and Diablo 3 run flawlessly on the 4200, one in a while a slow down on the Asus out of nowhere.

I have 3 macs - 4 pc - 2 android phones - 2 wireless printers - WII - iphone - Panasonic Viera TV and 3D DVD player. All running simultaneously and running perfectly on the 4200. Only problem with the Asus was disconnects with the iphone......

Any questions fire away, as I said I own both products as we speak.

Eh, Cisco/Linksys don't have an EA4200 model...I assume you mean the E4200?

Honestly, the E4200 is a great router. Seeing as you already have it, I'd just use it and only if it doesn't perform as needed would I spend another $150 to get the Asus...

I've been doing some more reading and researching and it seem that the E4200v2 should be sufficient even with Speedboost:

You will have no issue what so ever. Any router in the last two or three years is more than able to do the job. Ok, for the most part, before the sticklers jump down my throat.

I have owned this router, on the rogers version, it will out perform your internet connection without even trying. Add in networked devices at the same time, and it still won't have broke a sweat.

In fact, I have seen hard drives not be able to keep up to the connection. Took me forever to figure out someone's issue, until I looked at how old their drive was, then put it all together. Again, it won't be an issue unless you are running a drive at least 5-6 years old, and its doing other tasks at the same time. 150 down is about 18 MB/s, which with todays drives won't even be a thought.

Won't break a sweat over the physical LAN connections. But I might look to an upgrade to get better wireless connectivity than what the E4200 offers. Wireless N isn't quite good enough.

I agree with that statement, I had some issues with wireless N performance, even tweaking it etc, and I still couldn't get good results. It worked fine for surfing the net with my blackberry, but, any file transfers or such, it was painfully slow. I also had issues with signal reception at a distance in my condo. That being said, most devices would have a hard time in my place, as all the walls are concrete. Built in the late 90's, they really went overboard in the construction. So I use a two, and soon, three device setup for wireless throughout.

I don't think any Wireless N device can do 150mbps actual throughput anyway...
