Leaves are opposite, no other possibility.

However, keep an eye open for poison Ivy sneaking in - they both grow in the same habitat.

Look for an Oak tree. Their leaves are called alternate because the bases of two leaves on the opposite side of a branch are not opposite each other - they are offset.

The box elder, and all other maples have leaves that are directly opposite on the stem.
