[DSL] Pitiful speeds during the day. Congestion issue? My connection in Monmouth, IL (61462) was recently bumped up from 3mb to 6mb, and a day after the connection became unreliable and nearly useless. Here's a current speedtest: » www.speedtest.net/result ··· 1989.png I haven't called support yet, but does anyone have any experience with this problem and can give me any hope that this will improve soon? |

We have a line quality test here, it might show congestion at certain points provided things like your router/your computer responds to pings. |

That's not what I asked for, it doesn't test the routing to you. |

Now that shows some what appears to be packet loss to your ip address, and upstream from you which you have no control of. Now the hard part is getting them to do anything about it. If it was just your ip address it might be just a matter of a noisy line, but this appears that your upstream gateway is overloaded. |

The problem for us here in Monmouth is normally our first hop outside the gateway. As a gamer who lives in Monmouth I am constantly on Frontier's ass about any high pings, packet loss etc.. I've talked to many of the field technicians in our area and every one of them have said that the college in town is a big issue with the amount of bandwidth they have received from Frontier. So we normally have our congestion at Carthage which is where our first hop is.
The problem now is happening on our 3rd hop up in chicago. It's been this way for about a week and a half now. During the mornings and extremely late as night the speeds are fine but we are heavily congested at that hop during peak hours. The field technicians I have talked to have told me the same thing that tech and line support have said over the phone the 50+ times i've snapped on them...They are supposedly upgrading servers and it's causing drops, packet loss, and huge speed hits from congestion.
Do what I did. Call billing and raise hell about it and get a free month of internet. I've got logs and logs from WinMTR and PingPlotter that shows how our connections have been here over the course of the month. |

Hey thanks for the info RedStorms. I'm hoping some other ISP comes into the town to break Frontier's monopoly. Their service has been terrible since they arrived. I'm a gamer too, and the connection is horrid for it. I've heard rumors of Mediacom offering fiber soon, but who knows. |

I pointed this out to the correct folks in the backbone team who can take care of this for you. One of the two circuits feeding that market was taken out of service and it appears some rerouting was performed. There could be some problem with the other circuit that made congestion the short-term lesser evil over leaving it in service, but we'll see what they say. |

No problem Davik. I've actually brought a few things up with someone on city council and may even have to make an appearance at one of the next meetings and mention that the city as a whole should be pushing for bringing in another high speed provider. It's about time this town gets out of the stone age when it comes to ISP's. I'd like to see some 35mb/5mb+ options here. Especially for those of us who are big gamers. It'd be nice to actually stream my competitive gaming on twitch for once but with our pathetic upload I can wish in one hand and crap in the other |

Oh Redstorms, i know your pain. As i'm a gamer to.
Right now i'm noticing how my skype call quality just goes into the toilet when i have a game updating. It wasn't like this before....
The three year latency issue which after the investigation was found that it was an issue on frontiers end and not mine has taken the fight from me. |
