[Tampa] Netflix not streaming in HD

Anyone else having an issue tonight where Netflix isn't streaming in HD on any device? Chatted with Netflix support and they (of course) blame my ISP... Riiiggghhhttt!!! My guess would be some hiccup at Amazon Web Services is to blame. I'll post the chat transcript when I get it but for now read this »www.forbes.com/sites/danwoods/20···diction/

Gary... I thought you of all people would get a chuckle out of this one...

Thank you for contacting Netflix customer support.

Here is the transcript from your recent chat with customer support:

Netflix Barry
Hello Hello. My name is Barry. How may I help you?

You
Hi Barry I'm having a problem with HD streaming this evening

Netflix Barry
No good. And which device are we streaming on today?

You
Well, I tried on my LG BDP and my HP Touchsmart PC neither would play in HD... Always played fine in the past.

Netflix Barry
So let me take a look at the Devices and the symptoms that you gave me. And how's your day going so far?

You
So far so good

Netflix Barry
And I found an article that will help out.

Netflix Barry
Click here... So we run at HD all the time. The speed it gets to your PC is what's not letting the HD work out. Take a look at the article and let me know if you have any questions.

You
OK my home network is Gigabit wired and my ISP connection is 90/10

Netflix Barry
That's great. And is it running at that speed right now?

You
Yes

You
I get HD from Amazon and from Vudu

Netflix Barry
I understand, but we have different operation systems, and different requirements for speed.

You
OK well I guess I'll just wait for someone to fix something

Netflix Barry
You can call your Internet service to make sure you are getting the right speeds needed to get the HD going. And they will make sure that you get the right speed to match our requirements. We only do Netflix. I can fix any Netflix issue. We can't fix the speed at which it makes it to the devices.

You
So you feel this is an ISP problem? When other content is being delivered fine?

Netflix Barry
I do, because if the HD was working before and all of a sudden it stops, with out pushing any buttons then yes. We operate a HD level all the time. So if you're not getting it, you will need to check out the device or contact the ISP.

You
Well one of the streams just went to HD... While we were chatting...

Netflix Barry
On Netflix?

You
Yes

Netflix Barry
Good, and what did you do to get that to work?

You
Didn't touch it

Netflix Barry
That means its the ISP. It's giving you speeds at a non consistent rate.

You
No... that probably means it's Amazon Web Services having an issue...

Netflix Barry
Is that not an ISP?

You
No that's your host... You co lo your cloud content delivery system with AWS.

Netflix Barry
I gotcha. And is there anything else we can do for you today?

You
Nope thanks

Netflix Barry
if you need anything else we are glad to make sure we can help you out. You have a nice day. And one more thing, if you wouldn't mind, please stay online for a one question survey.

It should be. The Netflix guidelines for HD are 5.0 Megabits per second download - Recommended for HD quality (720p or 1080i) Super HD is "different" since it's 1080p and requires the ISP to participate in "Netflix Open Connect" There's a separate thread on that here: »[Internet] Netflix Open Connect on Brighthouse networks?

I've experienced this the last few days on my Roku. It would start in HD, and then bounce back to 2 (out of 4 stars + HD) which is low grade standard picture. (On the Roku device, when streaming starts, there are 4 stars and the HD).

Hope it gets fixed soon...

Guys I want to do something so everyone in this thread and to those who add to it....

I need you to create a Direct Forums thread here »Bright House Networks Direct with the title NETFLIX HD ISSUE

Include your modem MAC, Netflix enabled device impacted, wired/wireless (you know how I feel about wireless so I want you to try it wired as well).

Router make/model if any. I want to take a look at a couple of things. Also be sure to include a description of the problem and approx when it started.

I don't watch on PC , I use Roku player and samsung Blu-ray with netflix app. Neither one of those show any symbol. But the movies look like they are better than SD. I haven't had any problems as far as I can tell

That won't work for those of us with wireless-only Roku devices.

For now I'm only concerned about wired devices so that the wireless variable is not in the equation.

Yep, I'm seeing similar results on Netflix this week. 45mbps speed test, yet no HD on Netflix from any of my devices or computers. BTW I'm in Orlando. I filled out the page on the BH Networks Direct.

I've had the same thing going on with my Netflix and I posted in the direct forum as well. I'm leaning towards Netflix having issues with their system.

I just want to confirm I am having the same issues. Watched a couple of movies last night and the quality of the movies kept toggling from 1 bar to 3 bars back and forth the entire movie. Rather annoying. Not once did it hit HD either. Thankfully I don't watch Netflix often so hopefully they fix their issues.

I watched another movie today and had no issues getting HD. I'm guessing whatever problem Netflix had the other day they fixed.

I still have sporadic issues with no HD, if you stop and restart the stream most times it will then play in HD. I just chalk it up to insufficient capacity on the Netflix - Amazon Web Services system. That's why they are wanting MSO's to adopt the "Netflix Open Connect" platform so content can be delivered "On Net" from the user perspective and sheds some load from the Netflix AWS system. Oddly enough when Netflix is acting up & I switch to Amazon Instant Video it acquires HD streaming almost instantly. So that would lead me to believe that Netflix just doesn't have enough capacity from AWS.
