Symantec putting an end to PC Tools security products

Noticed this today on the company website....

As part of Symantec's commitment to your online protection, we are streamlining our product range to offer you fewer, better solutions.

The PC Tools Security portfolio was retired on May 18, 2013, which means PC Tools Spyware Doctor, PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus and PC Tools Internet Security are no longer available.

If you're an existing PC Tools Security customer, you will continue to receive support and protection against the latest threats for the length of your subscription....

And what a surprise, Symantec recommends Norton instead.

From the 2008 PC World article announcing the original PC Tools acquisition ( Symantec Buys PC Tools ):
quote:
...According to Catriona Turner, Symantec's public relations spokesperson for Asia Pacific and Japan, "... PC Tools will broaden our portfolio in the utilities category, as well as with point security technologies."
...
Symantec says it will essentially be business as usual for PC Tools, which will sell its full catalogue of products and support its loyal customer base.
I guess after 5 years, none of that is true any more. So, "broadened utility portfolios" are out, and "fewer, better solutions" are in. Corporate double-speak is so fascinating to observe...

Not only that, but anyone remember PC Tools for DOS? Man, those were the days. I couldn't get by without that suite. Fond memories for sure.
