New router, slower speed?

I just replaced my old Xyzel 2+ router with a ASUS N65U dual band wireless router. My PC is wired to the router. When I do a speed test my speed shows 11.1 mbps down. With my old router the speed test showed 12.4 mbps down. Any ideas how a 5 year old router could be faster than a new gig-a-bit router?

Interestingly the router's GUI configuration app has a traffic graph. When I run the speed test it shows a peak speed of 14.86 mbps which is what Sonic support testing shows the speed as.

How much overhead should I expect. My PC is a 64 bit Windows 7 directly connected to the router through an Ethernet cable.

Depends what kind of firewall rules you have on your Asus compared to what was on your Xyzel. You may also want to ensure you're using wired by turning off wireless if your computer has that functionality.

I fixed it. It was a bad ethernet cable. Running at 13.4 mbps now.
