Re: [HSI] Motorola SB6141 latest firmware version?

said by samthegam:

In order for the Motorola 6141 (white) or (black) to bond with 8 channels on Charter's network requires firmware 1.0.6.6 it won't bond with 8 channels if the firmware is newer or older then 1.0.6.6 on Charter's network if 8 channel is available in your area

I have
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.6-SCM00-NOSH
but still only 4 channels bonded, I guess it's because no 8 channels yet in St. Louis Area?!

Just upgraded our service to 30/4 when we threatened to cancel our service after the yearly $50 increase they tried to pass on.

Even though I had a SB6121 that I had bought from them 2 years ago, they sent me the SB6141. Hard to believe they wouldn't have these newer units with the newer firmware, or that it cannot be user initiated. 1.066 was on the SB6121 and it was much quicker reliable, at least over the past 2 days. The SB6141 came with 1.03.... Only 1 channel, and while surprising the upstream went from 3.2ish to right at 4 with the newer modem, the down has gone from 20ish to 8ish.

Annoying.

Newer firmware isn't always better. Firmware can't be updated by the end-user for multiple, valid reasons. Search on the subject as it's been discussed here and elsewhere.

As was obvious with the foobarred firmware for the SB6121, which I had JUST purchased 3 days prior, when Charter managed to screw that one up!

Makes me glad I have my own modem, which they don't support, technically. At least I don't have to worry about them screwing this one up with firmware!

I am running 1.0.6.3 on mine and its a charter owned modem. I called twice and they said it can't be updated by them. Has anyone else had better luck?

I was told exactly what you were in december when I moved(the whole "we won't support your modem", you need to get one of ours, ect, ect. Still using my own modem, and it is still getting their FW updates. I don't need a tech to install a modem. install.charter.com still works just fine.

I have been patient, had mine sb6141 for a week now, and still has 1.0.6.3. Rebooted it about every other day to see if that triggers anything.

However, at least it is bonding 4 channels, and gave me almost a 1mb boost on the upstream over the sb6121.

Same issue here, I've been on 1.0.6.3 for a while now, hoping for a firmware update sometime soon!

Same here... Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.6-SCM00-NOSH but only showing 4 channels. I just picked this up from Charter on Friday (it wasn't an update).

Edit: well, i guess it could have been updated during initial setup...

Did you mean SB 6120? I don't remember any problems with the 6121... or did I miss something?

Oops!

You are correct. I did mean the 6120!
Was reading about the 6121's here and it just stuck in my head.

I'm guessing Charter doesn't scan the 6141 or 6121 modems firmware yet. I had a old SB6120 that I replaced with a Ubee because I was having trouble with it a long time ago. I activated the modem for my account and it has a old 1.0.2 something firmware on it. Again its several years old and spent most of its life in my drawer. The next morning it was upgraded to 1.0.6.6 version. I have a SB6141 and its hasn't been downgraded. I know this is hardly scientific, but plausible.
