 | I need help on security system at home. I read online that it is possible to set up your own surveillance system at home. Assuming this is true, what equipment, besides Surveillance Cameras, will I need to invest in to set up a home surveillance system? I was thinking of setting up a 4 camera surveillance system with a DVR (since this is a common surveillance setup); can you guys give me step by step instructions on setting them up the right way? What other suggestions can you give me to make the surveillance system foolproof? Id like to get ideas from you guys and I will be reading them one by one. |

 | It is true you can install your own system, but a good first step is to tell us a little more about what it is you are trying to accomplish with the system, and possibly provide a little sketch of the area you are trying to cover.
Systems vary widely in terms of capabilities, and ease of use. If this is a system that will only be accessed rarely, when a severe event occurs, you may be willing to give up a little ease of use for cost, but if you are going to be using it on a regular basis, that needs to be taken into consideration.
Also, what is your level of comfort with installation (i.e. running wires to desired camera locations, etc?). |

Someone breaking into the house, if they are smart, would take the local DVR with them. Security footage gone! |
