tako join:2013-06-02 Philadelphia, PA 1 edit | [Northeast] Did Verizon FiOS stop construction in Philadelphia? I live in Far Northeast Philadelphia; apparently a part of which Verizon decided to not install in. I'm pretty sure it's just my neighborhood, and surrounding neighborhoods - but there are some sections that do have FiOS available, less than 5 miles away. I'm pretty sure I live like half of a mile away from a Verizon service office, or something.
Every link I've come across that was supposed to lead to the "construction schedule" for specific streets is dead, and their PA construction website is gone.
Anyone have any details about Verizon's plans (or lack thereof) for the rest of Philly they haven't installed in? |

 | From what I've read a while ago, all of Philly will have FIOS by the end of 2015. |

 | I live in 19149, I have not seen a Verizon truck since the big super Storm, There is Fios couple of blocks a way from me but nothing where I live , They need to worry up with it |

They are too busy in many areas fixing other infrastructure to worry about new build outs. IF your area is part of the area they have existing agreements requiring FIOS to be installed, then it should eventually be installed, |

Well I guess you can say Verizon gave it a good go with FIOS, but they didn't try hard enough. IMHO all of us in Philly that still don't have FIOS will be waiting for a long time if we ever see it at all. |

| I thought Comcast OWNED Philly.
I still thought Verizon had until some time in 2014 to finish wiring the place up. If they roll past that date, and still nothing..... -- ROCK 'TIL SUNSET |

 | Verizon has until 2014 to wire NYC. That plus Sandy hopefully explains the neglect of the Philly build-out which isn't "required" to be completed until 2016. They still haven't wired University City. (East of 46th, West of 30th between Baltimore and Powelton.) |

| Verizon having to pay ~$100 million dollars in the NY market to move pre-built lines is (probably) where the 2013 budget is going.. maybe the 2014 budget will have more money in it after they pass along the cost to consumers on their bills.
Docsis 3.1 will make short work of figuring out which markets are a priority for Verizon.. but that's late 2014 & 2015, not today's headache for them.
You could write to your congress people and tell them that this is more of a priority for you.. OR you could MOVE and pay taxes elsewhere.. |

 | I am in 19154. Around 3 years ago they put up poles, then around 2 years ago did some wiring, then came back a few months after and did some more wiring and one of the guys said it should be good to go in a couple of months. Yeah right. No one ever came back to finish it. Haven't heard or seen anything since. What really makes no sense is lower income areas being done and completed years ago. |

Re: [Northeast] Did Verizon FiOS stop construction in Philadelph Specifically, Kenney is concerned that lower-income neighborhoods are low on Verizons priority list.
We were happy to have competition with our current major cable provider, Comcast. But we want to make sure that every neighborhood in the city is getting built out with the Fios, and not just neighborhoods that can afford to pay the fees, he said.

Re: [Northeast] Did Verizon FiOS stop construction in Philadelph I have been seeing Verizon trucks on different streets like almost everyday for the last few months here in the far northeast part of philly 19152 to be exact. Could this mean they are finally installing Fios in this area? Some of the trucks have really big rolls of black wire on them. And just today I saw them running wire in a big hole under the street. For a while was really looking forward to getting fios but now with Comcast new "X1" and upgraded 50/10 Internet speed I have been more the pleased with Comcast lately. So even if fios does become available I am not sure I will switch right away if at all. |

Verizon had made a deal with its competitors for a chunk of wireless spectrum, part of that deal was to not build new FIOS in those areas where the spectrum was offered or something like that. Basically put, if its not already in the wire center for your address it's not coming |
|
 | that wasnt the deal, please don't spread false rumours |

I live in 19128 and I never see any verizon personal working around this area. And, comcast is not available for my house, so I am stuck with 3Mps until something is done. |
