Patents are really good things, especially if the patent is for something "obvious". Often times something that seems obvious in hindsight is far from obvious before it was "discovered". Plus, short term patents protect R&D dollars and help encourage innovation.
Current patent law, however, is beyond stupid and needs to be changed because patent law currently discourages R&D and innovation. Current copyright law is also really, really stupid.

Patents are good things when the protect innovation and are issued to companies that actually make products covered by those patents.
IMO all patents held by patent holding firms should be retroactively deactivated.
Also slide to unlock for example is not innovation, the doors on my shed have that.
