Rebooted my modem. No speed upgrades for regular OOL here in CT |
|
|
to T0ny
Have it here in Great Neck, as I confirmed with a sub-tenant in our office that has standard OOL. No change on our OOL Boost Plus line though. Hope they do something for Boost Plus, won't get my hopes up though. |

Nope... even Optimum Online still list basic tier as 15/2 when its really 20/2. Same goes with Boost being 50/8 when its 60/8 » www.optimum.com/home-int ··· rnet.jsp |

All they are doing is matching Verizon, hopefully Verizon increases their basic tier even more. |

They have since reigned the DL speed in from 22 to 18 This UL bump is more than double so I would hope they want to brag about it Plus I can only guess more changes are coming to other tiers |

At the moment, all I know is that the 18/2 tier is being upgraded. I asked a person I know who is familiar with the Brooklyn service area. I would venture to guess it's a system-wide upgrade, but again that is just a guess. If I see the guy (he frequents a social network I'm on) I'll be sure to ask, but at the moment, no idea other than a guess. The guy did mention that they're re-calibrating the network for increased speeds and to please give them a chance to complete the work, so I guess yes, but again, only an educated guess. Good luck and to be honest I thought my speed tests had went bonkers, which is why I asked the guy in the first place. Crossing fingers Dave |

my modem shows
Upstream UCID Freq Power Channel Type Symbol Rate Modulation Upstream 1 2 22.50 MHz 54.00 dBmV DOCSIS2.0 (ATDMA) 5120 kSym/s 64QAM One minor point of correction - 5120 kSym/s really has little to do with the speed upgrade speed. The setting affects how much potential bandwidth is available eg: Data rate = #_Bits_per_symbol * Symbol_RateCheck out » volpefirm.com/docsis101_ ··· ream-rf/ for a more detailed discussion and some examples. Cheers! |

I'm also seeing 18Mb/s down, 5Mb/s up. Morris County System. |

said by BSB :I have heard that boost is going 50/25. I have not heard if/what Ultra will get bumped to. This bumping of the Uplink is only possible if they activate Uplink bonding. The max Uplink per channel is 27Mbs (Downlink is 38Mbs) so provisioning 25Mbs Uplink needs bonding or a single B+ user could max out the uplink channel on that node. With the current B+ 8Mbs uplink you only get 1/3 of the max possible bandwidth, an Ultra at 15Mbs gets just over 1/2, while Standard Tiers get 1/12 (at 2Mbs) or 1/5 at the new 5Mbs. This means that based on what mix of tiers the current users have at any time, you never have anyone hording the bandwidth. |

That 27Mbps figure is from Brad Volpe's page, but I think he's overestimating the overhead: 6.4 MHz ATDMA 64QAM channels can do 30.7 Mbps upstream speeds. The overhead is low enough for you to be able to achieve >29Mbps, not 27. |

OK, good to know. So is there a speed increase coming for Boost+ customers? How much, and when? |

I was just quoting the speed table in the DOCSIS Wikipedia table which shows that 4 channel bonding gets 108Mbps (ie: The 27Mbps I quoted). They also show your 30.72 Mbps as the Raw speed (which includes Overhead). I do not know what the real overhead is. That would depend on how the bandwidth is being delivered I'd assume. Fiber might have a lower overhead than a wired connection via a packet switching protocol. |
